I happens to everyone and I'm sure most hunters in general and most everyone on this board hate to see a poorly placed shot on an animal.  Traditional archery has refined my thoughts about shot placement and distance to my target.  This season, being new to instinctive shooting I am limiting myself to a very close shot on my prey.  If this means I have to pass on an animal that is what I will do, although it won't be easy!  Helped a friend look for a deer the other night.  He took a long distance shot with a compound at a doe and hit low, we never found her.  However, as we loaded up that evening we could hear the coyotes barking/squealing and going crazy deep in the woods. My guess was they found her.  I have a hard time with bowhunters taking hail mary shots in the near darkness, which was part of the reason I felt so compelled to  begin my journey into trad archery.

Thanks everyone for your insight and ethical discussions on Tradgang!! It is a breath of fresh air at times to visit this website and read the posts.

Amen.

Which hunter would you rather be?...The one who kills a P&Y buck at 60 yards with the latest greatest gizmos or the guy who kills a doe at 10 yards with a longbow/recurve.

I'll take the doe.

Count me in on the doe too.  I've had to pass quite a few shots because of my self imposed limitations, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Yep, far more exciting to see how close you can get.

There is nothing like being eye to eye with the animal.

Inquiring minds.......

I can't tell you how many critters i have shot with a trad bow but I can tell you almost every one of them have been less than 15yds!

I am very picky about when I will take a shot.
