Hey Guys,

I have been looking(drooling) at the Stalker bows for a while now. I called up South Cox the other day to see if he had any bows that fit my specs for a test drive. Unfortunately there was nothing too close because I shoot low poundage at 28" due to my 31" draw.

Anyways, he has one that is 7 or 8 pounds heavier than I want but I might try it out. However, I started thinking maybe I should just order a custom one?

Any Stalker owners out there want to offer opinions as to why I should just pull the trigger and order a bow?

Lamey

well if you order one you can get it EXACTLY how you want... thats reason enough.

I had the privilae of shooting Hope for a month, the year Stalker was the sponser. I can honestly say you wont be disapointed, those jokers are sweet.

I had similar feelings but was unable to try one out first. So I just ordered one and South was gracious enough to make it exactly how I wanted. I ordered a totally custom T/D longbow 60" 45@28" and I can't even remember what I picked out so it will be a total surprise when I see it  :D  South is a real pleasure to work with and very helpful and insightful. I don't think you can do much better especially for the price. Mine should be finished any day now and I can hardly wait!

Don't rationalize or think too much. If you want it, then obviously you need it. It is as simple as that. GO FOR IT!

I'll be the stick in the mud.  I would never buy an expensive custom bow without having spent some quality time with one first.  I don't mean a few shots.  I mean getting the bow tuned, proper arrows, really a good shake down that might take a few days or weeks.

The loaner program they have is a wonderful option, not all bowyers offer it.  It's too bad they don't have one in the weight range you like, that would definitely be the way to go imo.

I have read nothing but good reviews of the Stalker bows and they sure look nice in the pictures I've seen.  I also have never shot one so don't know anything about them other than they look nice...and that's the point.  I have had a lot of custom recurves and longbows over the years, all bought used off the classifieds.  What I learned is that there are a lot of nice bows out there, but there are only a few that are better   for me.  Things like the grip make or break a bow and there is no way to know until you spend some time with one.

If I am going to spend the kind of money a custom goes for and put up with the waiting period most have I want to   know to the best of my abilities that it's going to be right for me.

I learned in the classifieds that there are very few (I actually didn't find any) poor performing bows out there.  That said, I sold most of the bows I bought used, kept a few, and actually ordered a couple made by the same bowyers as the bows I found I came to favor...and got   exactly what I want .

This is just my opinion, Stalker bows have earned a fine reputation for performance and good looks so don't take this as in any way a negative on their bows in particular.  All of my comments above are meant in a   general sense when it comes to ordering expensive custom bows.

If you want shoot me a PM
Ill let you use mine. You ship and insure both ways
I have a new journeyman I'm currently in love with. I'd be willing to give up my static stalker.  I have 2 sets of low poundage limbs to choose from too
Let me know and well work it out

That's a pretty nice offer Matty      :notworthy:    Tough to pass that up!!

VictoryHunter, if your bow didn't show up Saturday, it'll be to you on Monday. I mailed it out last week. Enjoy!

VictoryHunter

Woohoo! I can hardly wait. Thanks South!

I have heard it said that many folks, when on their death bead, regret more of the things they didn't do, than things they did do.  Don't let this be one of those regrets.

(No, I do not work for Stalker Bows).     :goldtooth:

I've got a 54 pound one at 28 and I pull 30.5 (measured about 60 on the digital) it doesn't really feel all that heavy - and DEFINITELY seems like it's a lot lighter than my old Samick which was supposedly the same weight.

Having said that, South is pretty quick when it comes to turn around. I think from first email to delivery was less than 8 weeks.

One thing I should tell you though, if you've got a longer draw and big hands like me, you might ask him to make the grip a little wider on yours. I was having trouble with mine and had to build up the throat with leather, now it shoots like a dream.

Nice guy and great bowyer, so I hope you're convinced.
