Who is putting in for the Kentucky elk draw?  I think the deadline is the end of this month.  I would love to hunt elk some day, but don't think I'm quite ready yet.  The thought of handling an elk on the ground at this point in my hunting career is a little daunting to me.  Anyway good luck to those that have/are putting in for the hunt.

I'm putting in for an archery cow tag.

I'm in in both the standard raffle as well as the KFW raffle.  Maybe this year is the year

I put in every year for KY elk. It would be a lot shorter drive than CO.
I don't worry about what to do after they are on the ground, I worry about how to get one on the ground.

Hey Austin, don't let the ground game stop you it's just like cleaning a rabbit - just more of it and you have to touch up your knife half way through.    

Seriously, put in for a tag and if you are drawn there will be plenty of guys to help I'm sure.  Also, there are You tube videos of breaking down an elk that will show you the way.

If you draw, you will be able to learn and master THE GUTLESS method for elk - IF you can put one on the ground.  It is most-excellent and the meat is fantastic!

I applied again. Would be shocked to draw but I'm guaranteed not to if dont put in.  Anyone on here hunted them with trad gear.  From ky afield tv show looks like road hunting with rifles is the preferred method.  Walk a gravel road in a big strip mine and look for an elk to shoot.  with trad gear this would definitely not be as easy as it looks to be with rifle.  Just interested in other trad archers experience with it.

My wife drew 4 years ago, I never have. She took a young 4x4 first day, rifle, I had called him out of the timber on a strip mine, at last few minutes of daylight. We hunted on public land, no guide, did several scouting trips and she was very pleased to get the chance, as she is an avid deer hunter. The KY Afield show is filmed where they can make a show, show success, real hunting on public land is much harder. I had 2 of my best friends both draw a tag last year, one a bull, one a cow, rifle for both. Took till last 2 hours of last day to get a cow, and this guy is a very capable hunter. Guy with the bull tag hunted hard daylight till dark, for 3 days before getting a chance, took a 6x6 and both had did their preseason scouting. I put in every year, only lottery I play!

My son and I both applied. I heard yesterday that applications are down a bit and for a bowhunter to draw cow tag the odds are better than 1 in 7.

I feel like I'm going this year!

Doing good Dan,hope all is well with you.  Been shooting Hill styles more recently.  I know what you mean about getting one on the ground, both ends would be a challenge for me.

I just entered me and the wife. Overall, odds are about 1-40 of getting drawn, pretty good odds!

This is my 4th year putting in. I put in for both cow and bull archery tags. Hope I get drawn this year. If not ill keep trying.

I have only missed putting in one year since the lottery started, never been drawn. I spend the $20 and put in for a cow and bull tag. A friend (Dale Pottinger) has drawn a cow tag the last two years killing one the first year and not getting an opportunity last year.

Is there public land to hunt or private? I'm considering giving this a shot this year. Do you try as a group or single license?

Single license, plenty of public land, as well as private. Some areas have a lot of elk on private land and they want a high fee to trespass, $1000 or so, but a guy I know ponied up the money and killed a 300+ inch on a guys farm that had good hay fields. My wife drew and we did several weekends of scouting, and she got one the first weekend on public land, 4x4. Pm me if you need any more info, glad to help.
