I will be heading to Michigan with my wife for a gathering with her family.  I think I'll pack the bow and some arrows.  What are the laws related to roving or stumping?  We will be in Pentwater, and I think there is some state land nearby.  Just don't want to get in trouble.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

Branches on stump have to be 3" or longer on one side.

Do some checking. A lot of state land is closed to shooting/hunting through the summer. The DNR also frown on "target shooting" on state land.

There were some long threads onthis a while ago, but I can't locate them right now.

A small game license should keep you out of trouble. Red squirrels a'plenty....

You should check in with the DNR and ask....there are some spots they don't allow shooting from April 1st to September 14th. Aslo, when talking to the DNR, don't say "target shooting"....

Thanks, I will look into the small game license, or see if I can find a range nearby.

Mike, there is a range in Hesperia, 4B's, 30 targets-$5. About 30 minutes southeast of Pentwater. I might be able to shoot with you depending on your schedule.

Thanks.  I'll look into it and let you know when I get in the area.

The kids and I have crossed paths with a conservation officer while out stumping during summer.

He was curious why we were out there at that time and I told him, "Red Squirrels and trash clean-up."

We take garbage bags with us and "hunt" for trash using judo points. He thought that was an excellent idea.   ;)

If on public land, wear an orange cap and have a small game license, avoid the April 1st - Sept 14th areas and you should be fine.
Just one more step please!
