Does an Accusharp ever wear out?

I've got an accusharp that is several years old.  As of late it feels as though it's not cutting anymore.  Do they wear out?  Can they be cleaned?  Or do you just buy a new one?  Thanks.

I had the same thing happen. I took it apart and flipped the carbied sharpeners around, it is like new again. Eventually I'll have to buy new carbides.

Charlie Lamb

Take it apart and rearrange the carbide inserts.

You can turn the cutting blades around.  Just unscrew it, sepereate and flip the gray blades over. Easy to do.

The manufacturer advises that you do as mentioned above-flip the blades for a new surface.  When those wear out, you can purchase replacement blades (they cost at least half as much as a new AccuSharp, but you can reuse the handle to save a little bit).

Of course the manufacturer doesn't recommend it, they want you to buy a new one.
