Latley there is alot of talk about heavey broadheads. I just started using carbon shafts and i like them .When i got the cx 150 i also got 50gr inserts. I thought it was the thing to use . So i tuned these shafts with the 50gr brass inserts and a 125 tip.Im 5yrs old into trad  I just wondering if the persons arent using brass inserts and they need 200grain pts and bhs. Iv been watching the threds about brhds especialey the vpa 2 blades .I dont understand why they are so heavy .Im just looking for knowledge for my upcoming setups not an argument?   ps-sometimes i ask silly questions cant help it!

100gr. of brass and a 170gr head(zwickey) put me where I want to be on total arrow weight and spine. I like the looks of the vpa's but instead of the 175's I would probably pull my inserts and go with the 250's. Just more than one way to skin a cat.

I'd much rather use a heavier (i.e. stronger) broadhead than a heavy insert. But if you already have a certain broadhead you like and need to add point weight, a heavier insert is the way to go.

I tend to use both, especially when I am trying to get total arrow weight up for very large animals. The brass inserts, particularly the 100 grain version, also help strengthen the front of the shaft. In addition, I sometimes use collars or footing on the front of the shaft, even when the shafts are the AD Hammerheads with extra layers of carbon on the forward shaft area. It takes a lot of weight to get a really high FOC on heavy arrows.

Sorry Gang ; after rereading my post my  question is unclear to me.Is it that the persons are using heavier spine shafts or alum inserts that they need to use heavey tip weight

inserts, adaptors and points are all ways of controlling front end arrow weight, no more or less.  

weight is weight, don't matter which component gets you to the grains you require.  

with carbons, i use 100gr brass inserts, 125gr adapters, 125gr broadheads = 350gr front ends.  they kill real well if i do my part ...
