I've used it on 6 deer over the past two years.  I've had no problems using it, and it made trailing them in low light with my "old" eyesite a piece of cake.  I have gifted some to my trad buddies, and they use them regularly.  I don't use mesh on my ground blind window that i shoot out of so i can't answer that question.

I agree with Burnsie re starting brace height.  125 grain points should work. Given your longer draw length and arrow length,I don't think you'll be able to go much heavier.  Maybe to 145 grain, but start with 125

Bitzenburger
I use Loc-Tite Ultra Gel - but I'm usually always adhering them to Onestringer arrow wraps.
The last several batches of feathers I have gotten were from Kustom King - called their "King" feathers - good quality and priced reasonably.

I'd start at 7.5" and work up from there.

PowWow / Brace height recomendation
Last post by DanielS - October 22, 2025, 10:25:16 AM
Ive got a Damon Howatt Coronado. 48# at 28".
Appears to be an 1982 model. I pull roughly 29". What brace height ya'll recommend? Any hunting weight arrow build recommendations? Ive got some Big Jim dark timbers in 500 he recommended but didnt think to ask ideas on insert and point weight. They have 5" shield cut helical. Arrows are cut 1 1/2" longer than front of riser at 30 1/2". Regular aluminum inserts. Ive got field tips up to 200.
I have never set a bow up or tuned arrows. Where do yall thing it will fall, and where is a good start on the knock point?

PowWow / Re: Double Bevel, Single Bevel...
Last post by Gdpolk - October 22, 2025, 07:36:40 AM
All things being equal I think it's fair to say single bevels penetrate deeper and have a larger potential to breech through heavy bone on heavy game. Ashby has already covered that.

I shoot primarily deer, feral pigs, and black bear in the Midwest. All of these animals are medium sized game animals without heavy cover, heavy bone, or thick skin. I consistently get complete pass throughs on them all as the norm. I typically shoot Grizzly single bevels for deer and some 3-blade single bevels (I forget the brand...maybe VPA?) on bear and pig so the blades can cut more and bleed more for tracking. That said the only reason I chose single bevels for these uses is because it was an option with the head I was already buying anyway. I wouldn't hesitate to put a sharp double bevel though the boiler room on ANY of these species whatsoever.

In my experience I really just want the following and I feel very, very comfortable amongst almost all N American game:
1) excellent flight and a balanced head that spins true
2) SHARP points and good shot placement
3) heavy arrow build with some weight up front
4) arrow build that doesn't fail (many of the super light broadheads curl up if they graze bones)

HIGHLIGHTS 2025 / IL doe
Last post by JakeD - October 22, 2025, 07:24:22 AM
Got this doe the evening of October 9th over in IL. She busted me, but didn't get out of there quick enough. Shot was about 10 yards, and she ran about 60. I was using a Robertson bow that my friend Pat (Tater on here) sent me this past spring.
