I read Steve's bow was 87 pounds, they didn't say what his arrow setup was.

What he said.....

bare shafting is all about checking the proper spine and arrow flex. Most guys run a bit weak, then fletch their arrows using field points. I can't imagine why you would try bare shafts with broad heads. That doesn't make sense at all.

Nice looking Osage bow.  How hard is Osage to get in Australia?

Congratulations, truly dangerous game hunting.  I would also like to know bow and arrow setup as well as broadhead.

Super good fellow, very happy for him.

PowWow / Two blade deer hunters need ya...

Yesterday afternoon about 3 minutes before the end of legal time i took a shot at a 8 pointer at 12 yrds,, it was from a low treestand maybe 7' up and the shot was over and down into scrub oak brush that i did clear a few lanes.

The shot, the anchor everything felt good on my end, at impact i heard what sounded like a small
Stick break i didnt hear that distinct thump.. the deer jumped a few times and stopped maybe 30 feet from shot and just looked all around for 5 minutes,, it then started snorting, jumping away some more then snorting and this went on for 10 minutes as the buck moved further away..

The broadhead was a magnas MA1 2 blade....the fletching was a bad choice the leaf green and i couldnt see it!!

Okay so i think it was a defection or miss,, ive had 2bladed hit deer snort once then bed down, just take off then fall but with all the snorting going on i dont think it was a hit..

Couldn't find arrow and blood but only had a junk head lamp. Going back this afternoon to find arrow then go from there.

PowWow / Re: Deer Shoulder Penetration
Last post by Burnsie - October 23, 2025, 09:27:21 AM
I wouldn't advise it on purpose. Unlike Roger my experience with trad bows and shoulder hits has not been positive. I think it depends a lot on what part of the shoulder you are talking about. If you hit the flat scapula blade part, it will typically blow through that, but if you hit square on the main joint knuckle - good luck?  I shot a buck with a zwickey Eskimo and hit him right in the heavy knuckle part. The arrow barely penetrated and fell out after a few leaps of the deer as he dashed away.  When I recovered the arrow the tip on the Eskimo was curled right over.  I was shooting 45-50 lb recurves.
