Possibly a deflection and a hit missing the vitals. Hope you do find the arrow and/or blood.

PowWow / Bow Length
Last post by Butch578 - October 23, 2025, 12:01:52 PM
I'm looking into getting a long bow but have a question to hopefully give me a little knowledge. I've looked at the draw length to bow length charts online but everything is geared towards long draw lengths. I have a 27" draw length. Is there a point when a bow can be too long? (The 64"-66" bows are what i have in mind for asking this) Thank you

The Bowyer's Bench / Re: percentage of glass

Building a static tip RC like that with .030 glass requires a high skill level for a bowyer, and a bit of luck too. You are pretty much stuck tillering using width profile and trapping with thin glass, and adjusting draw weight sanding glass is pretty much off the table....

Cool looking design there Max. ill bet it's an arrow smoker!

Quote from: Watsonjay on October 20, 2025, 01:30:21 PMI was just going to build a 3-piece and send it to a buddy who lives on the Island of Guam. I thought maybe if he wanted to get different limbs he could order them from a vender and have it fit without having to have me make him new ones which was why I was wondering if there is a standard in the industry so he could buy heavier or lighter limbs from anyone.
Building a 3 piece bow sucsessfully that tracks straight is totally dependent on limb alignment. Even using a milling machine that has excellent results getting uniform hole alignments in both the riser and limbs, they still need to be mounted and checked for straightness before shaping the limb profile.  It's not uncommon for those limbs to be off center at the tips a wee bit, and need a straight edge to determine center of limb. This is std procedure, and critical.

Bottom line is your idea that someone could retro fit finished limbs on an existing riser you build is not realistic unless you incorporate a lateral limb adjustment system.

Also.... Checking your limbs for accuracy making sure they are exactly 90 degrees at the butt and the tips is vey important before you mount them on your riser block. You can easily build a twist into your limbs that will be a nightmare to adjust tracking on even if they are perfectly aligned. IMG_5864_Original.jpgIMG_3302_Original.jpgIMG_3301_Original.jpg

PowWow / Re: Deer Shoulder Penetration

I have hit the shoulder by accident, and it didn't work. You may get through if you just nick the scapula, but you won't if you hit it anywhere near the center. It's a poor shot choice, regardless of the weight bow you're shooting.

PowWow / Re: Brace height recomendation

Quote from: Orion on October 22, 2025, 11:55:11 AMI agree with Burnsie re starting brace height.  125 grain points should work. Given your longer draw length and arrow length,I don't think you'll be able to go much heavier.  Maybe to 145 grain, but start with 125
I think Jerry is correct - with a 500 arrow at your draw length, you may be pushing it even with a 125 grn point. Keep the arrow as short as you reasonably can.
