Over the last several years I have been favoring 60" D/R longbows, 63-67#.  However, I just recently acquired a Moosejaw Razorback 66" longbow at 61# that may be first to the dance.

I'm interested in what folks have to say on this. I have been looking for a quiver and these are much easier to find than a bolt on.

I started split finger 30 years ago.  Thought it was the only way.  I tried 3 under and it was just better for me.  Now, I'm at a fixed crawl and that's even better.

The Bowyer's Bench / Re: 2 core lams vs 3
Last post by Kirkll - September 06, 2025, 08:50:41 PM
I'm a big believer in more laminations in a long bow or hybrid long bow and try not to exceed .80 thickness as a rule. The thicker lams do not do as well in compression as more thinner lams.

But with TD recurve limbs your stack is much thinner and could easily use 2 lams. but..... i still like having 3 lams vs 2. I often use 2 wood lams and a .015 piece of stable core with .040 glass. The torsional stability seems to be a bit better.

Also... when bending a tight radius, you have less spring back with more laminations, and it holds its shape coming out of the form better... .02 cents worth.

On another note and no hard fact here but observations at least in these parts... most older long time shooters are using split finger. The newer shooters it seems are more toward 3 under. Anyone else see that? I will state I believe the release is easier pointer finger anchor.

Quote from: Burnsie on August 12, 2025, 02:16:24 PMAnyone try shooting two under and dropping the ring finger. Seems like you could get the advantage of having the arrow under your eye without all the extra tension of all three fingers low on the string?  Would have the same tension under the arrow as shooting split, but without the top finger.
I believe Dan Toelke promotes shooting two finger - but split.  I've tried that and it is fine, but I'm just too set in my ways and stick with regular split.
You could shoot split finger, middle finger anchor and have the arrow in the same place as 3 under

PowWow / San Diego Archery Shop History...
Last post by Jaz5833 - September 06, 2025, 07:46:09 PM
I don't post often here on TG but most everyone should know me if you frequent the LW Forum and my San Diego Archery History Project.
I have recently made contact with Roman Gray Jr., the son of a prominent Archery shop owner in the San Diego community of La Mesa during the 60's and 70's. While there's no one better than Roman junior to tell about his father, he was fairly young when his dad moved from San Diego to Alaska and as such doesn't know a whole lot about the scene in San Diego. Additionally, not foreseeing a need, over the years he has disposed of records, and such, pertaining to his dad's business.
He suggested that I might find some old acquaintances of his dad among the members here.
So, with that being said, I'm looking for any stories or pictures relating to Roman Gray Archery in La Mesa California.

Aside from my San Diego History Project, I'm also an amateur historian for the San Diego Archers and have collaborated with Dave Gordon Jr of Gordon Plastics Inc to donate historic items to the San Diego History Center. All my requests and efforts are motivated by the desire to preserve this history.

Any info would be appreciated.

PowWow / Slide on Selway Quiver
Last post by Pigpopper - September 06, 2025, 06:16:23 PM
Bought a new Selway slide on quiver for a Red Wing Hunter.
1st for me. Any issues affecting the bows finish if leaving it on for long periods of time (like forever)?

PowWow / Re: What bow this season?

I will be using my Great Northern Ghost once again. It's pretty much become my go-to bow at this point. 59-60 pounds at my draw, 62 inches. Shooting GT trads with a 200 grain 3 blade VPA for TAW of around 525 grains.

I'll be bringing my Blacktail Elite as my backup out west in a few weeks, also shooting 60 pounds at my draw, 66 inches, but shooting 575 grains with a 200 grain 3 blade VPA.

Might break out out the Aberdeen, Abbott, and maybe a Bear at some point throughout the year as well.
