Those are some Fine Looking Arrows! What kinda Points are you gonna use? Brass would be Really Flashy!! Unless youre going to use them for Hunting of course.

Buck-Eye, hemlock can be used in construction like 2x4 and 2x6 a lot is used in mouldings because is finishes and stains so well.  So the strength is there, the color looks a lot like spruce, a cream color.  I made a few for my self and like them very much.

Steve,
Why is hemlock only a special run ? Is it hard to find suitable logs for arrows? Hard on your equipment?
I really like the idea of the lighter shaft as I like to shoot lighter arrows and fir comes in a little heavier than what I prefer but I really don't like cedar because it breaks so easy .
It would be great if you could find a way to run some more . Thanks

I took advantage of the first lot of hemlock when Steve first made mention of them here on TG. I bought a bundle of fifty for a total cost of a little over 2.00 a shaft. These are nice looking shafts and look forward to making up some arrows with them. Thanks again Steve.

Fir is much more common that hemlock in Oregon and in the log form they look very similar.  The bark is a bit thinner and can be gray in color, but fir can also be gray and often redish brown.  When we bought the hemlock log we thought it be fir at first.  After paying for it and starting to process is did we discover it was hemlock.  So we processed it and are selling the results.  We don't plan on doing both woods in the future.  But as we have talked about fir can at times have some lighter mass weight, depending on the log.
