Some get bit by the Hill bug, I got stung by the primitive bug. Ever since I got my Ed Scott Owl from the classified here I have been impressed what a glassless bow can do and the craftsmanship it takes to make one. So along with my Parker Hill, and my Ed Scott Owl I now own the Guavinator....66" 78@27 made of Guava and backed with some great skins...."The Guavinator" made by Manny Padroni, a simple Masterpiece. Knife by Don Sutton and Bamboo shafts by Home Depot...

Congratulations. I have long admired his bows. TYhat one looks super nice. That is if it is the same mManny I am thinking about. The one I know of lives in Hawaii and his bows are awsome. Its pretty evident that you have a great bow there Peter.

Thanks Steve, Guava makes a real sweet bow, looks like a pale Osage that never changes color.

bump for a oool thread. I ran into Gary Davis and Matt Wirwicki at Kzoo. I want to make a snakey osage, cane arrows!
I'm not a "deer" hunter, I'm a bow hunter that occasionally shoots a deer.

LongStick64

They are addicting. I think what hold some back is they don't believe how well they perform and you can get a good arrow tune. Are they flashy and sexy, depends on what turns you on.

WOWWWW I WANT TO MAKE A SELF BOW SO BAD!! I JUST BOUGHT SOME FILES AND 4 CLAMPS. SADLY I JUST DONT KNOW WHERE TO GO AFTER THAT HAHAHAH I THINK THIS SPRING THAT MIGHT CHANGE AS IM VERY LOW ON $ AND IDK HOW TO MAKE A BOW FOR UNDER 100$ AND BEING A FIRST TIMER I PROBABLY WILL BREAK MY FEW BOWS.. BUT WOWW YOU GUYS HAVE SOME SEXY BOWS. I THINK SELF BOWS ARE JUST GORGEOUS! LIKE A JAGUAR E TYPE
The Fishburglar

I would start with hickory for your first self bow. I prefer pignut hickory, it quite often is very straight and tight grained, but it has to be very dry to make a great bow. The one I have is so good that it keeps me from making anymore. I have reduced its length and poundage since its first stringing. I may take it down a few pounds once again. I do have a yew project that I am starting, that needs to be aged properly as well.
