I am farly ignorant to all the material out there now for strings.  I have an actual string from Widow I just put on my bow.  My guess is it is the Dyna-flight stuff. . . anyway, it is really shiny and almost has a feel of "plastic."  I have used other strings before this that did NOT come from Widow.  They were also some of the higher tech material but they sure seemed softer and not as shiny-maybe even quieter.

Any thoughts??

Bears can attack people- although fewer people have been killed by bears than in all WWI and WWII combined.

Black Widow uses D97 for their strings, however Blackwidows made before 1988?? use dacron only

KSdan

I think the one I have is D97. . . the other was not dacron, but I do not think it was D97 either. . . does anybody know what it may have been?  It seemed softer and quieter than the D97???   Thanks for any help!

If you own a Black Widow you can enter their forum and post the question. I think they went directly from dacron to D97 but i could be mistaken.

KSdan

Guys, thanks for the ideas but widow can not help me. The string I am asking about (as posted in the opening question) is NOT from Widow.  It was a string that someone made for me. . . I actualy have two of them.  They are not dacron and they seem different than D97. . .

My question:  if NOT D97 and NOT dacron. . . what would a knowledgable string maker have possibly used that is a newer material but possibly softer than D97??  Hope that makes sense. . .

Thanks again for help

I use red & black D97 for my strings and after  I wax it up good,I use a pice of string and run it back and forth on it to remove the excess wax.It shines it up pretty much like you're describing
67" Hill Tembo, 50@27
67" Hill Half Breed, 53@27
66" Hill Redman, 48@27
66" Hill Cheetah, 55@27

It could be Fast Flite, Fast Flite Plus, TS 1, TS 1 Plus, TS+ now, just to name a few.  How many strands and bundles is it?

If the string is a flemish twist it should have at least 2 sometimes 3 bundles.  Inside each bundle is individual strands that make up the bundle.  Just like 2 groups containing 7 strands per group/bundle, would mean it's a 14 strand string.  If the end loops have serving over them, then it's a endless loop string.  If it's an endless, just count the total of strands in the string itself, you can do the same thing with a flemish twist, except you will have usually pull the twist apart a little and that's when you'll see the bundles containing the multiple strands.

I have a PSA and replaced the D97 strings with TS1 plus. IMO much quieter. I am a huge fan of TS1 plus and not a fan of D97 although it has a huge following. I have found it quieter than any other material on a consistent basis and it is the only FF material I use.

O.K.  62"  SA 53#@30",  I draw 30.5".

Flemish string, 2 bundles, 6 strands each.

They were made probably made 5 or so years ago.

What do you think?  Maybe they were D97- just sure seem softer and quieter than this new Widow D97??

Thanks again guys

String materials can vary some from one run to the next, and some changes are made to the process here and there.  If the old  string diameter is the same size and has the same number of strands, most likely they are both Dyna '97.

If the new string is a smaller diameter (same number of strands), it could be 8125 or TS Plus.  If it's larger, it could be 450+.

Also, strings can loose their "shine" and get softer the more they are shot.
