How to ruin a good bandsaw blade ?

Cut some glass !  This idea was posted here some time ago.... apologies iam not sure who's idea it was but i thought i would try it since i haven't invested in a carbide bandsaw blade and wanting to strengthen my risers ,Cutting out the sight window and temporarily replacing it to apply glass back overlays has been working very well, thanks for the idea .

I have been using that method for years.  I have never had an issue.  Only drawback is it predetermines which will be the top and bottom limb.

The thing is you don't have to cut the sight window first. Can do it after glass is glued on.
For blades I use bi-metal for everythin 6/10 variable pitch. Resaw till they show dullness then use them for fiberglass. Prolly not as good as carbide but works. Never seen a blade once hits glass will cut wood good again

Another option is running linen phenolic on the back instead of glass. It makes a very nice limb pad base.

You also dont need to cut  glass to ruin a bandsaw blade. Trying to cut too tight of  with the wrong blade pinches the set on the teeth, and they won't cut worth a damn afterwards. It's not Dull per se, but no set to the blades make them worthless.


Btw.... There are other ways to remove the shelf material without using a bandsaw.
