I snuck by the post office yesterday and picked up my new bow from trux. Hell of a job Dave! I put her together real quick and shot it about twenty times and I can say its a joy to shoot. Pulls smooth, releases sweet and hits with authority. I will get some pics up later this week after my 14 hours a day are up. Thanks again Dave.

Glad you were able to pick it up and shoot it some.

DVS - Congrats on the bow.  I know first hand the quality of a bow from Trux having received his last year.  Looking forward to the pics.

C'mon Kenny.  Let the ole guy enjoy some of his retirement.  Saying those words would choke him to death.

Well Scred Mt from Arizona got my bow and gave me a call. He said that he really enjoys shooting it and will put it to good use. Glad it made the trip cross country alright.

Incredible looking bows everyone!!

This year has been very challenging for me to achieve the requested bow weight...I am on my third try but now have two very nice bows in the 45# range to show for my efforts!

I like a challenge and this swap is sure testing my skills (that's why I joined again)!  I hope to make weight this time around..."Third time is a charm!"

Taking off early from work today with a goal of getting this bow on the tillering tree!  Pict to follow!

Good luck on finishing up your bows!

Dino, I too tend to have more problems with my trade bows than any other I make throughout the year. I've got one from this year and a few from other years. luckly they all find a use in some archers hands as a lighter bow or altered in some way. sure can frustrate a guy.

Yeah guys - I've come to learn that when you make a bow with the intention of keeping it for yourself everything goes right.  When you intend to build it for someone else, everything goes wrong.  The bow I made for Kenny this year required me to grind off the riser overlays and re-apply.  Didn't get a good glue job on the first try and it left voids that I noticed when I was feathering the ends of the overlays into the back of the bow.  Ticked me off.

John,

I think I'm just the opposite. When I build for someone else I guess I take more time with everything. When I build for myself I tend to get alittle lazy because I know it's for me and unless it's something that could cause a problem the only person I have to please is me.

Hey John,

Here is something I plan on trying- using a pc of dow foam, prob 3/4" thick x 1.5" wide x 1" longer than back overlay.

I'm gonna use it for a squeeze block with a lath or something over it to clamp the overlays on the bow to get pressure everywhere.

I told one fellow about it and he did it with great results.

Only reason I haven't is I burned all the scrap foam when shop was done! LOL
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Well guys I'm going to have to drop out of the swap. I had by first self bow to 21"@50# and removed to much wood in one spot and got a hinge. I tried to remove wood on both sides and pulled it back to 21" and it was worse. I don't think I have enough left to make weight. I have some boo and ipe but I don't think I will make it by the deadline. I'm sorry guys. I was really looking forward to sending out my first self bow. Next year ill be in my new house and have a shop to work in.

Good idea Kenny.  I'll have to try something like that next time I do riser overlays.

Got 'er done, fellas.  Here's a simple, effective, old-school hunk 'o hickory.  It's based on an amalgamation of some eastern Woodland Indian influences, to include the general profile and scalloped edges.  I tempered the belly and induced just over 1" of reflex.  It holds about 3/4" at rest.  It has purpleheart overlays, a leather handle wrap, floppy rest, and a D97 string with beaver silencers.  A little stain that has been sanded on the edges and a frosted finish complete the package.  This is made from a nice piece of hickory I had milled into some boards a good while ago.  I sure hope my recipient likes it.  I thought about dolling it up a good bit more, but I like the simplicity of it as is.  It looks at home in the woods, and I hope it can make meat come this fall.  Enjoy!  (PS: I had a bear of a time getting a good, true full draw picture.  This one isn't great, as it makes the outer third of the upper limb appear excessively flat.)
