Broketooth, I would say you need to stay away from the fades right now and get the tips and middle of the limbs bending.  I am sure others on here will chime in and we can see what they say.

I was thinking the same. The profile, fades and handle look great. Get those limbs bending, very nice work.
I would start scraping from 10-12 inches away from the ends of the handle to 5-6 inches from the tips. Looks like your fades are the only part bending at this time, leave them be for now.

Making Wooden Bows hurts sometimes. But it get's better.

KellyG

ruddy if it is like mine it will take set very easy at the fades if you dont getting them to bend.

SportHunter

Kelly & Ruddy, a trick that helped me was to put the bow on its side in the vice and bend the limb/limbs slightly by hand to see the movement then going to tillering tree when I started to see some good movement on both sides.

Roy from Pa

Ruddy if you look at this picture where the black circles are, ya see how the limbs are bending right there? That's not good. The limbs should have an even 1/4 moon arc from the get go. That circle area is wide and thick, but it's bending there. Hope this helps.

thanks roybert! ive been gettin some advice from several sources. i have found its time to man up and admit i needed help. im on my 7th attempt.  ive been doing research and trying different techniques to train my eyesevery bit of advice is much appreciated. im sure it is admirable to want to do my own work. but i still consider myself to be a bowyer in training. rv

Put mine up and took it to about  8 inches on the long string... Not much tip movement and she's way heavy ...

I shaved some more off but didn't put a string back on it.

That gets a Hear! Hear! from me.

I got to work on my next attempt today, until the heat got me.  It's a Hophornbeam stave I got back in March.  It came with alot of natural reflex:

I know, I need more bookshelves...

It has a little character to it:

I hope to get some work done on it this weekend.  Its 64" ttt, and the back is what was just under the cambium, 1.5" out to 8" before the tips, then down to 3/4" tips for now.
It was a branch about 3" wide, and the topside is the back.

Beyaz, I'm sorry to hear about your tragedy. Hope you and everyone are well.
Stay safe.

My trade bow is coming along alright, I think its gonna end up coming in just a little light. But I haven't flipped the tips yet and I got a little bit that I can cut off if needed to.

Thanks,
Boswell

KellyG

JGL I marked you as shipped.

Beyaz sorry to hear about that. I hope all is well. I understand and I know MR. D does to. He is taken care of.

Roy from Pa

Hope things work out for you Beyaz.

JGL just get us some pics up and get me a tracking number.

With Ink have to drop out we are down to 87 left.

I can draw mine out to about 26" easy. I might even make weight. If this bow turns out it will be a true hill bow for sure, set and all.
