Sweet looking bow Pat, turned out great!

David Flanrey

Pat, love the cave drawings!  Work of art!

Here are my candidates.

I took the bark and sap wood off the most narrow of the two staves I posted a few weeks ago.  It was a real straight piece of osage.  I split off a healthy stave and belly split.  Chased a ring and sealed them back up.  Have been in my hot box at 85 degrees for a few weeks.  Gonna start with the pyramid profile.  This is a very clean stave but has a little woopide-doo that needs some heat and a caul.

Also, uncovered an old belly split from a snakey stave.  Probably 6 years old.  The limbs are both a single ring but not the same one.  Does anyone else ever do this?  Kinda had to be this way on this split.
It is the one on the right.

CityCop, yes!

I put one of the staves on the caul to even out the reflex a little.  Both staves have good natural reflex on one end and not much on the other.

Pat very sweet bow. David I really like that straight piece. Them twisted knotty ones make sweet looking bows but them straight ones make sweet shooting bows.

But I would be really happy with any of them.

Oh we have a bow in he mail so watch your door step.

Got mine cleaned up and tillered some.  Still got some weight to cut down.  I'm gonna try my first attempt at a posting a pic so bare with me.  Its a boo backed with a ipe core and osage belly.  The riser is cocobolo and the strips are osage.

Looking good D...Nice even curves going on there.
Proud to be "regressing"

D, when you put the curser on the Photobucket pic a box comes up with 4 choices. The choice on the bottom is the one you want(IMG).Left click on the IMG file and it will say "copy".  Now come to your thread, left click and "paste" the pic. When you "add reply" the pic will show up on the thread.

D I think * is going to love that bow.

David Flanrey

D,
Is your bow a tri lam?  What did you use with the boo?  Looks like fast one.

David Flanrey

Kelly,
Those twist and knots look real cool but are really hard on me.  I have a little better luck with the clear wood.

Maybe since I have learned to post pics I can get the help I need to figure out those knotty bows.

My bow has lost a bit more weight due to shooting in, so now it's a few pounds below the minimum target weight. So here's what I'm going to do. Over the last few days I cut out 2 riser blanks, one from walnut and one from white oak. Then I cut and glued, cut and glued, etc. alternating oak and walnut to end up with 2 real nice risers. I'm going to build 2 more bows and send the best of the three to **.
The weather was too cold to work in the garage this weekend, so I spent yesterday skeet shooting with friends (kicked their butts btw)  :bigsmyl:  and today I helped my Brother-in-law install some kitchen cabinets.
This week the weather will be warmer so I'll be cutting and planing lams.
Dave.
