I will heat it up and on that vice and some clamps and some wood and some luck and get the twist out then the tip in a better line.

Keenan

Worked on my trade bow last night for a bit.  Its gonna be close on making weight, but I have plan B just in case.

Lookin good fellas. Gonna get kicked into high gear this week and hopefully get somethin productive done(if i can keep myself outta the woods lookin for morels that is).
Heat heat and more heat kelly. Have no fear that sucker will straighten right out after a couple of good heating session. Will definitely be watching that wicked recurve

ok I have one heat round down and got some of the twist out.

just a little more to go I think.

If you compare them to the pics on pg 108 you can see I have a lot of the twist out.

All I did was heat up the whole limb from the fade to the start of the bend of the tips. Then just use my hands to twist them and held for a few minutes until it was cooler. I then let it set over night and did the other side. Now that both have set over night I will heat them up and twist them again to get the last little bit out.

When you heat the wood you will get it hot and feel the difference in the springiness. It will not be as springy but for lack of a better word it gives or releases and you know then it is hot enough.

Pat B

It becomes "plastic"...and osage reacts so well to heat.
Kelly, next you need to line up the limbs. That might get done in one heating but don't push it. If it takes 2 or even 3 sessions then so be it. If you fight it, good chance you'll loose.
This is gonna be a very cool bow!  Look how far you have come in a relatively short time with a war zone thrown in for giggles. Looking forward to following your progress.

Great progress Kelly, looking forward to seeing it done.

Wow Kelly! I wouldn't know where to start with a stick like that, but you're making it look easy.      :notworthy:
I can't wait to see it done.  :archer:

Kelly, I asked my wife what she saw in your picture - she said if it was her house you would be dead meat! You are really working on a bow in the house?

D

My girl would let me work on mine in the house if I asked but the reason I have a bowshed is to get the heck away from her. lolol

Looking great Kelly.  Really interested in seeing it when you start tillering it.

KellyG

Thanks all for the kind words. Pat my next heat I will try and get the kink out of the one limb and a little more twist out of the other one.

I just make sure I clean up behind myself and all is good. And if it was her house wildcat then I would have gotten to drunk over at roy's and got really lost.  :)

I just glued on some tip overlays with superglue gel, they are from beautifully figured oak.  Hopefully on Saturday I will have time to shape them.

Just checked USPS tracking number...they were off by a few days...the bow is on route for delivery today!  Hopefully I put enough postage on it so it is not on route back to me!
