with my tri-lams, I find the ideal taper depends on a number of things, limb profile, limb length, and limb butt thickness.

so for basically pyrimidal taper limbs, for thicknesses up to like .400" I find that about .005"/" total taper is sufficient. I've also used like .0075"/" taper on thicker, longer limbs like .500 butt thickness. My swap bow (check bow swap thread) which was about .500" thickness and a 68", had three lams, each tapered roughly .0025"/", for a total .0075"/"

Regarding the thickness of each lam, I usually try and make all the lams roughly the same thickness. 1/3 of total limb thickness per lam .... but I'm making mainly hickory backed tri-lams, prolly a little different with bamboo ..

This last tri lam I showed the picture of was built a little different than my first one, because a buddy sent me the materials in a package deal for this one. The Osage lams were 3/16th and 5/16th thick. Normally the core lam is way thinner like 1/8th, tapered to 1/16th at the tips. I should have but didn't taper the thickness of these two pieces of Osage. Instead I did larger facets right down to the glue line on the belly lam, that made it easy for me to shape the belly into a radius profile. The width profile is 1 1/4 wide at the flares, holding the 1 1/4 width out another 6 inches, then a straight taper to 1/2 inch wide tips.

Little Ben, I'm an OLD Redneck.. Ya gotta change all them .0025 and .0075, and .400 stuff into 1/64, 1/32, 1/16, 1/8, 1/4 etc.. LMAO:)

I upped the score today, took out another ground hog:) That will teach them to eat my garden plants:)

I shot my newest bow today after a month of not being able to, due to torn muscles in my left elbow. This is the all bamboo tri-lam I recently finished that has a bent lower limb. You can see the bend in the picture below.

I was able to get some of the bend out by pulling it across my knee, but I didn't want to push my luck. It shoots great. I was putting arrows next to each other in my turkey target. Besides, I'm keeping this one for myself.
Here are some more pics. I don't have a full draw, cause there's no one to take the shot for me.

The leather grip is my first attempt. I tried it because the riser is a bit plain. The only wood in the bow is the walnut riser, the purpleheart power lam and the walnut and padauk tips.
I don't have an accurate weight, but it pulls in the upper 40# range and it slams a heavy arrow home with a good thump.

Had the Kubota cranking out dirt today. I had to run over 3 John Deer's bogged down in the mud  just to get in the field:) The pond is our fishen hole.. I had to quit plowing cause I ran out of dirt:) The cooler in the front bucket was full of sarsaparilla:)

You need to plant that stuff back in the woods Roy. It's way to easy to see out in the open and too close to your house son.  ;)

Roy from Pa

I hide it in the corn, then the big bucks eat it and get all goofy and stumble past my stand and I stick em:)

This weekend was our UBM rendezvous. Had two of my Grandkids for the weekend. My 8 year old Brendon must have shot over 1000 arrows.

Made a call to Cody (tenbrook) this morning to get some valuable insight on building a Hill style flat bow.  He put up an offer to help me out, now I just gotta get my butt in gear!
