Roy, take advantage of the flexability of the tri-lam and BEND THAT SUCKER!.

Roy from Pa

Glass? What's dat? Some Sissy Pants ingredient?

You ride that bull, cowboy:) LMAO

jsweka

Dang Roy, you do need better glasses.  That's a horse not a bull.

I'll have to get ahold of Jim and the rest of the Pennsylvania Longbow Association leadership and let them know that they need to adopt a "Universally Accessible" target policy so those shooter's who are up there in age can participate too.  Maybe put a step ladder beside it.

I shot a 10 on the buffalo from the back of that trusty steed both times Monkeyboy and I went around the course.

Razorbak

What do you mean by flipping the tips..isn't the tips taking the shape when you do the glue up?

Eric, pretty sure Roy must be counting by the dozen at thsi point ... or maybe just by weight .... 176lbs of tri lams, 78lbs of osage self bows, ~400lbs or roughed out staves ...

Roy from Pa

Yes I flipped the tips before glue up and since it's a tri lam, I flipped both the core lam and belly lam separately.

Flipping the tips means I induced reflex at the tip with heat on a form.

I lost count of how many BBO's I've made:)

Last night I evened the score on the ground hogs, I layed two out in 5 minutes:)

macbow

Now another question.
Do you notice a difference with the tri-lam vs a regular single lam BBO

Roy from Pa

Yes, the bow bends so much easier in the form and it takes on a much better, more defined deflex/reflex contour.

Echatham

how much of the tiller is determined by the lam thickness/taper before glue up, and how much is belly scraping or limb width scraping?

Roy from Pa

how much of the tiller is determined by the lam thickness/taper before glue up

90%

and how much is belly scraping or limb width scraping?

10%

Bowjunkie

Yeah, so it's important that lams are consistant in thickness from side to side so that limb twist isn't built in... and accurate in taper so there are no flats, hinges, or bad glue lines built in.

In tri-lams, the prep work is, or should be, largely where the quality of the bow is determined. If everything is done accurately, well proportioned, well designed and coordinated... the work AFTER the glue up is a cakewalk.

talkingcabbage

What's the thickness on each of the lams on a tri lam? And what kind of taper do you put on each to get the tiller as close as possible?
Joe

"If your work speaks for itself, don't interrupt."

One of two things will happen; it'll either work or it won't.
