Just spent a couple of hours talkin' to the young man that directed me toward TradGang. He isn't a member on here but somehow had heard about the site and told me about it a little over 4 years ago.

I love talking about makin' bows almost as much as makin'em.

I roughed out a HBERC that I glued up yesterday -

Only used a hatchet, SurForm, and a combo rasp/file   :)

64" TtT, 2" for 2" out of the fades and then a taper to 1/2" at the tips.

Awesome! Keep us posted on the cedar! I love how it looks I'm just scared to work with it.
If you're gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough.

Looking forward to this HBERC bow...
Me, another walk with the new dog and a few more dogwood shoots.
Then off to work...  :(

Ok, I do not know the afore mentioned accronym used in the post by CardBoard Duck, HBERC.

What does this mean, could someone please explain?

Thanks guys.

By the way Cardboard Duck, it sure looks nice to me, but what does this silly rookie know, besides that I can't wiat to build my first.

Thanks,

Frosty

Frosty, I think that's Hickory Backed Eastern Red Cedar or HBERC.

Got another 20 staves split out yesterday.  Now comes the fun part.

The fun part being packaging them up and sending them to me???  :p

Got to work on the HBERC a little more, got some tip overlays on and braced to about 5".

Drawn to about 25" I'm hoping for 28"... but I'm not sure it'll make it

Braced about 5"

I blew up a mulberry bow I was working on. Pretty cool. Five pieces.      :banghead:

It was a bit above freezing this afternoon, so I got an early start on what might become my swap bow, once I know who I'm building for and his / her stats.
All bamboo tri-lam with a jatoba power lam and a walnut riser. Looks like a nice combo. This will be plan A. I'll work on at least a couple more in case of problems.   ;)

Made a couple arrowheads, worked on my kiln, boiled on deer head, and split a couple selfbow staves.  Busy day spent with my son.  Great Day!

DVS, I'm 4 for 4 with mulberry.  I can't seem to get one to stay together either.  Never had one go in 5 pcs. usually 3.  Those little fine pin knots seem to always be where they let go for me, but I keep trying, have 3 or 4 staves drying now for next year.

DVSHUNTER

Dan, this one was my first try and I don't like the stuff. Not at all. Ihave one more stave to try. Well see if it can change my mind.

Good luck with the next one.
