Well got some finish on the wifes table and while it is drying I got to reducing some of my cherry staves so they will dry quicker. Took the hatchet to a couple to get rid of the excess fast and tore up the back on one of them.  :scared:
So to save some time I now have a couple of hours chacing a ring to get a good back.   :knothead:
Still it is some good prcatice and will help teach this grasshopper some patience.

Got a osage bow tillered to 55# at 25".  Got an inch or so to go and then I'll get to finishing her.  Got 3 really nice bow blanks done yesterday.  Been a fun weekend.  I have a pile of osage staves I need to get down to a ring and at least thinned a bit so I can get it drying for next year.  I might do that next.  Gotta make room for cutting some more this winter.  Have a new place to cut that is supposed to be full of sage.
Take a kid hunting!

I had an idea for a couple of risers so I went out to the garage to play awhile. Checked to see what kind of plug I need for the planer and found that I'll need to get a 20 amp breaker for it,so I can't play with it just yet.  :(
Then I dug around until I found the wood I want for the risers and by that point I was cold enough to say to heck with it and came back inside.

stringstretcher they were sour wood shoots. I made the heads plus I used pine pitch and sinew so I was not expecting them to be too close in weight. I was surprised that 2 were within 15gr

but today I took off one ring of a Osage stave. I took the limb knots off about 6 more sour would shoots and got one heat straightened. I need to get them all done and ready for bunnies by the end of the month.

Ok I met a man named John McPherson today. And can I say I am in for a head from learning. Don't know how often I will be able to meet him and learn but I hope it is often. What am I trying to learn anything he will teach me but went up to learn about knapping. I found out that the local flint is a good source you just have to find the source that does not have natural fissures in it.

My first lesson he just showed me how to hold a stone and strike it. So know I will start reducing rocks into flakes and hope buy the next time I go up I can show him I can so he will teach me the next step.

It is going to be along process. He looked over my arrows and the my trad bow also. I was like a kid in the candy store let me tell you.

kennym

Got card from trail cam, took down a stand, and worked on a bow a little.
Stay sharp, Kenny.

DVS, that looks exactly like the stove we had when I was in Jr/HS. My daddy cut a hole throught the ceiling and roof, stuck a flue through and said, "Come on. We're cuttin' firewood."  That little monster heated the whole house on warm days.

He had the sides cherry red many mornings before we headed to the deer woods.   :bigsmyl:

They are great stoves.

Stan thats funny. Thats exactly what i did. I bought it and cut a hole through the wall in the garage and havent been cold since.  I paid something like 75 bucks brand new on clearance! Defonitly gotta have a heated shop.

Kelly,
The same McPherson that wrote the Primitive Living book??  If so, wow what a teacher you have!

Worked on finishing the hickory selfbow this week. Buffed the 5th coat of tru oil, signed it with specs, sprayed several coats of krylon crystal satin over the tru oil and cross stitched my first leather grip. I was going to finish the back with snake skin but this one seemed to want to be understated and left unbacked. I'll try to get some good pics in the next couple of days.
