Yes it is Dave, but it broke in a different place. I don't know what happened as the tiller was looking perfect. But you will have that.  Thanks Kenny, and DVS your back to the top of the thumpen list son:) Ya been one and two on the list for years now...

kennym

Does that mean I'm off the list now?
Stay sharp, Kenny.

If it helps Roy,,, I messed up a nice character osage this past weekend that I'd been working on for, oh,,, say 20 hours or so over the past few weekends and thats not counting the time spent cutting, sealing and curing!

Thanks Joe. It's one thing when the boo throws up a splinter, but when a nice piece of 1/4 sawn Osage explodes, that just whizzes me right off:) But I started another one today.. Only time will tell.

David Flanrey

That's the way Roy!  Get right back to it.  I think all bowmakers need to learn what to forget and what not to forget.  My problem is that my forgeterer don't work sometime.

I was thinking today about Kenny's bow design giveaway and was curious if any of the 4 winners had started their Kenny brand bow... I would love to see some pictures and updates.

Roy, sorry your bow broke... Bummer.

Sorry about u bow Roy but I bet you get another built. I put a leather grip on my bow last week but haven't had any time to shoot it till about 6 this evening. I put about 60 or so arrows through it... Hits pretty hard.

Roy from Pa

Well it rained here most of the day. So no hunting for me. Spent the day in the bow shop. Have another pair of Osage billets Z spliced together and drying, have the boo all cut to shape, and have the Yew Stave cut down to bow shape, and have about 10 empty beer bottles in the shop:) Life is good..

Thanks guys and west tex, nice bow dude..

fujimo

ITS SNOWING ITS SNOWING...

The blood is pumping for hunting NOW.  I think it was too hot for me to think about seriously until this point.
I humbly follow in the learned footsteps of those who precede me.

Roy from Pa

Great send it east, Nate.

Have the yew stave cut to bow shape and another BBO almost ready for glue up.

Roy, Do you cut the boo to shape before or after you plane it to thickness?

I run it across a jointer till the belly side is flat. Then I trace my bow pattern on it and cut it out. Then I use a belt sander to get right to my lines. Then I run it across the jointer to thin it more, then I run it on a belt sander to get it even thinner.

wood carver 2

Thanks Roy  :scared:  My old jointer is 10 inches wide and didn't come with a guard. Needless to say, I'm very focused when running thin stock. And I use two rubber soled push blocks!

Worked on two bows tonight.

David I understand about the jointer eating thin material:)

I tired and going to bed:)

Roy from Pa

Glued a riser on a BBO and had another try at reflex on my Yew Stave.

I haven't shot in a while so I thought I'd start out shooting my light bow which is the first one I ever built. On the sixth shot I heard a tick. As I came to full draw for the next shot, the lower limb exploded about 10 inches from the tip.
It sucks losing your first shooter.
At least nobody was hurt. My Dad was standing nearby and all I got was a slap in the face from the string.
After looking the remains over, I couldn't find a cause for the failure. The bamboo back and belly are broken clean and straight and the walnut core broke on an even diagonal. I'm thinking that I might try and salvage the riser just to keep a part of my first bow.
