I didn't even feel the need to trim the tips of the Bateman glove. Like other said it takes a lot to break them in, I really had to force my fingers to stretch out the tips but it ends in a nice tight fit.

I notice in alot of pictures that there are no silencers on the strings. Are Hill bows that quiet?I suppose with a heavy woodie it is possible.

No need for silencers.  Bows are very quiet.

Brad, that looks awesome! I'll build one of these at some point. At least, that's a goal of mine.   :)

Thanks guys for all the HH glove input. I guess I'll just have to give it a few weeks to break in. Interesting suggestion about cutting the tips.

Also, here's a photo of my new HH quiver hanging on a rack I built a few weeks ago. Other things on the rack are: a deer hide quiver I threw together several years ago, Steve Angell's NM Shelton, my hickory flat bow, my new Hill Wapiti.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Cool rack and picture Ben, but by the looks of how full it is already you may need to make another!

Finally the hunting gods have smiled on me! Fresh snow on the ground, a free afternoon, gorgeous sunshine and a quiver full of arrows equals my first trip out hunting with my new Hill bows. Today I'm taking my Cheetah as I'm shooting it the best and it'll make my hunting partners old man drool!

Watch out snow shoe hares!

Good luck Ross!

Snowshoes are delicious - especially when harvested with a Hill-style longbow!

Shoot straight, Shinken

Thank you sir! I actually made two since I had all the stuff out. One for me and one for a friend.  :)

Man, it is so sweet. I can't stop shooting it. Making some arrows this week. It deserves new ones.      :D

There it was, my well beat, falling apart, block target. Months of smacking it with blunts made it look like it was the squalid condition of a hoarders kitchen! Next time I'm really only gonna use field points on it, next time.
As I looked through my junk pile, I came across an 125g f.point. Hmmm...    As I loosened up the hold of the ferrule tite, thoughts of high foc, extreme foc, stability, spine, and the like passed through my mind, but, I remembered something Howard wrote in Hunting the Hard Way, 150g maximum!   As the bond let go, I used a kitchen towel to remove the point,
Putting the 125g on the shaft, my mind flashed to what howard was shooting, 90# shafts, probably a bit heavier overall in the shaft than the 65# I use. His 90# shaft with a 150g and my 65# with a 125g, done in similar fashion would equal the same foc, for crying out loud!
Now on the way out to the pile of loose foam, I thought of the increased handshock, the louder string noise, and increased vibration from the dramatic drop in arrow mass,
but, I am determined. So at about 20yds or so I let one rip. Thwap, decent shot. Then again, hmmm not bad, but let me really do this a few times so that the newness wears off and I can form a more critical analysis,
I used to shoot 160's, I now shoot 125's, Have a great day.

Overspined

Swampthing,

2 things
I shoot 125 gr heads out of my Miller split bamboo too, and can't believe what a good shooting bow it is. A Hill glass bow only adds 8 fps of the same draw wt with the same arrows...bamboo is nature's carbon.

On the flipside, the reason to use heavy arrows and heads with Hill bows is because you can. Going heavier has a very small effect on cast...to a point. I'm sure you see it more than I with a bow over 60#.  Also, keep experimenting, I find the heavier overall mass and point weight add stability to their flight. It seems like lighter shaft mass gives the arrows a little more jumpy feeling.

I would add.....penetration as well!!.......

and I will take penetration over speed any day!!

God bless,Mudd

PS: I seem to possess a natural knack for being able to point out the obvious...lol

Beautiful bow Steve! I'm going to have to shoot one of those Northern Mists one of these days.
