"It's important,  when going after a goal, to never lose sight of the integrity of the journey" - Andy Garcia

Well every one has weighed in on this so I may as well add my experience.

I have been shooting for decades and I have seen some unusual shooting stances and methods. The most unusual was a fellow who "swept" passed the target. He did not slowly creep up in it, he actually swung passed the target quickly enough to be noticeable when you watch him.

Finally I asked him why he shot that way, and not surprisingly he said, "That is how I learned to do it as a child."

I do not know how well such a method would hold up under extended Olympic type match competition, but it served him well over the 50 target weekend shoot at the Traditional Archery matched at Cloverdale.

As I have gotten older, and slower, I find I can hold and shoot just as well with the 35# self bows I built for my grandkids when they were younger; as I can with the 45# and 60# bow I used a decade or so ago.

I remember the olympic archer twenty years ago who missed a tEn pointer at fifteen yards. I'm not an olympic archer, nor do I want to be. I shoot animals. I wingdraw and snap shoot and I've had a great success getting a lot of animals. If you need any examples, please let me know.

Target Panic

I have watched a number of good shooters shoot. Men like John Schulz and, more recently, Jeff Philips, ( Instinctive Archery, and they do not hold. They release as soon as they hit anchor. I think the more important part is to actually hitting the same anchor every time before the release.
