double knee replacement and deer season
«

I met with my surgeon this morning and got a shot in each knee. Then we had a serious discussion about scheduling my replacements! I have been getting shots every three months for three years to try to make it until age 62 for full retirement, but I ain't gonna make it. We started talking about potential dates and his intern started throwing out October and November dates. My doctor smiled and said I would miss too much of bow season!! So the surgeries will be sometime in December. Got to love it when your Doctor knows you that well!
Starting into pre surgery work outs, specific to strengthening the hips and quads to make recovery go easier! Wish me luck!!

I had reconstructive surgery on my right knee last month. Going through PT trying to get back on my feet for hunting season. Best of luck with the surgeries

Had mine [left one] done a year ago.....had some issues but doing well now. I'm going to see my Dr. on Thursday and will question him on the right knee 1st week in December. Both at once is tough but if they say you can do it......get it done. "BUT"......you will have to work your a$$ off in rehab, but you need to push yourself and the rewards will be there. Best of luck.....keep us posted.

While I must admit that after market parts are not as good as original equipment.
I can say that my NEW knee ( total replacement ) is pretty much pain free. Rehab is your friend......the more you stretch it the better it gets. Hope you have a speedy recovery.

Get as strong as you possibly can before the surgery. It will pay off.

Agree with the pre surgery suggestions as that will help with the recovery time and pt sessions. I don't have experience with knees but thought mine were shot-fought them for 5 years only to find my issue was my hips. First done in March and 2nd done in mid June. Still at home but walking 1.5 miles a day to try to get ready to go work next week. Wanted to get mine done in plenty of time to be ready for bow season. Good luck to you and with effort will be worth the replacement parts.

Good luck Mike, I had both of my knees done
but, 2 years apart. First one was a easy recovery.
Off work for 3 months. Second one was hard off
work for 6 months. I got a DTV (blood clot) but, I
had to retire.

Knees can be problematic, I'd take two hips any day and I've had both. I was the "poster child" for a quick recovery, but mine still hurts like a bad sprain most days and likely always will. It's been almost 2 years. I hope you're not considering having both done at the same time. I thought that was reserved for people in catastrophic wrecks and stuff! My surgeon wouldn't even consider a hip/knee twofer on opposite sides. The surgeon said I'd need one good side during rehab...even if it wasn't really good.

Had both of mine done, one Last August ( so as not to interrupt hunting season) and the 2nd one last March (so as not to interrupt bow season). They are stiff but free of pain most of the time. You will be a happy hunter! Do the PT, but don't overdo it.

My doctor thinks I'm a little crazy. He says most folks are upset and nervous about scheduling surgery, but I'm actually excited! Getting them both done at once will be tough, but as I have my deductible paid up for the year it will save me several thousand dollars. Thanks again for all of the encouragement!!
