Well guys I am officially joining the Hill Clan and would love your advice on what bow to have made.  I am going to see the guys in the next two weeks up in Hamilton.  I am 6'3" and pull 55# @29" comfortably...so I am thinking about either 68" or 70" bow around 50-55#.

For the poundage... I'd go with a 69" or 70" Tembo with black glass for the best shooter. Cheetahs or Redmans are probably a bit prettier. Some swear you can't tell a lick of difference between them. I think the tembo was one of the smoothest shooters I have ever shot. Cheetahs are the prettiest.

Can you tell the difference between cane, yew and osage?  I am not interested in speed just a smooth pulling bow.  I have been working with a Bear Montana to get my wrist in a lower position and bending my elbow a bit.  How about string follow bows?

From my experience, the Bamboo is the best though I know others disagree. I find it to be the smoothest. I feel like my redman was a bit snappier though... just a feeling.

I would suggest that you not get a locator grip.  A deep grip with a very narrow wedge and a slight dish is best IMHO.  Shultz knew what he was doing.  I have a string follow bow and love it but am probably not good enough to tell the difference.  I have a wesly special but if I had to do it again I would get a Tembo, less glue lines.  Oh yea my personal preference is brown glass.

Tonight was fun and the kids loved it as well.

I spent part of the afternoon visiting a daycare center then off to Ashland Christian Church for their "Trunk or Treat".

It was awesome to get the chance to promote archery and teach a little about history at the same time.

Nice look for you Mudd, you look awesome!  Well, I posted this under Old Fox gets a deer, but I figured I would place it on the Hill thread as well.

I have a Shrew Hill I have named Old Fox. We ahve hunted hard together and had a few close encounters with some large deer this year, but just could not put it all together. Well, tonight a little 4 point walked by a little too close and I used one of my buck tags on him.

I was sitting against a large red oak tree with nothing in front of me. I jsut sit very still. At 6pm, he walked around my area and eventually 17 yards to my left quarting sharply I let my arrow fly. My Shrew Hill is 49 pounds at 28 inches, and 68 inches long. He never heard the bow or the arrow. I love shooting Hill style bows!

I will get pics up when I can, photo bucket and I just do not get along.

Dave, I'm 6'5" and have been shhoting a 70" 51 pound Wesley Special for 12 years. Shot a fat Illinois doe last evening with "Uncle Bob". When I open up, using a target stance and static release I can pull an easy 31-1/2" but following the Hill style with a fluid shooting style and release I pull 29". The advantage to a shorter LOP is a smoother, quicker release. As well improved accuracy in the field. Another plus, for me, with my taste for wood shafts I find the availablity of quality wood cut to 29" is much better than 32"!
