Dang Nate i want one of your bows real bad but you have caught me low of funds.  And now i will have to see the one you are making for Jeff and it will make it worse   :knothead:

I'll get a picture of the unstrung bow a little later.

Nate... that's an awesome gesture for the kids. Once word gets around I think we'll see a huge response.

Nate -

I may have to go to the bank and get a line of credit. I'm afraid "cash on hand" is not gonna get close to this jewel.

Charlie has posted some beautiful pics of his handiwork and Nate has generously offered up one of his creations for the kids. I don't want to horn in of their accolades, but I NEED to tell y'all about my phone conversation with Dave Johnson. I've shared privately with brother Mudd only because it is all his fault.

After looking at brother Mudd's video and a couple other pics of Dave's work, I decided to give him a call. Super nice gentleman to talk with. We chatted about various subjects for awhile before his red cedar bows became the focus. Dave explained why he preferred red cedar over bamboo (although he's made bamboo longbows). Light in the hand (his longbows weigh in at about 20 ounces), superior cast with less vibration transfer than bamboo, etc. I could go on but the bottom line is that I placed an order with Dave for one of his red cedar bows. Classic black glass on the back and white on the belly, 66" in length. We talked about the draw weight for several minutes. At age 78 Dave is hesitant (read that as stopped) to make any bow over 50# max due to the difficulty for him to properly tiller the bow. That's what we settled on. Additionally, he volunteered to email me some pics during the build process. So, there it is, I've got a new Dave Johnson red cedar longbow coming my way.

Danny, I do believe you'll like the bow you get from Dave... and yes he's a heck of a nice gentelman.

I used to think yew wood was the best material for an American style longbow, but have since changed my mind after shooting the red cedar bow I received from Dave.
It's understandable now why that's all he'll use.
You'll also be supprised at how fast it is for the poundage.
