Mudd, you got some albino beavers making nests on your string!

Nate Steen .

Mudd,

congrats on your success!   :campfire:

Stan I shot a 140 pound doe at 18 yards with a Hill that was 37 at 26.5". I used a a wood shaft and a 140 Hill broadhead that was sharpened with several tools on a dremel. I found the arrow was in the next corn row from the hit, the doe ran 80 yards and dropped. I have a ruptured disc right now in my back below anything that has to do with shooting.  It only hurts when I move wrong and only hurts when I shoot if I jolt myself after the release, but when it hurts it takes my legs out from under me from the pain.  If I get to hunt this year it will be with an inch shortened draw 25" or so and probably will not have much more power than I did with the 37 pounder. My wife has shot a number of good whitetails with bows under 40 pounds at her draw 26.5", although they were recurves and a NAT from Lost Creek.

Hey, Mudd, how do you cook that rascal to make it palatable?  :bigsmyl:

I may have an opportunity to make a deal on a new to me Hill bow. It is a take down with the larger sleeve due to the draw weight. Could someone help me out with the diameter of the grip on the larger sleeve ? I've never shot one of the take downs. Thanks in advance for any info guys.

You can cook anything in a slow-cooker.

Hey, Will, can't help you, but good to see you getting another Hill! Do you still have your assortment of heavy Hills?

Hey Ben, I've still got the heavy weight John Strunk. Of the Hill styles I've had, the one I liked the most was a 68" Big Five that was 73@27. It was just a standard Big Five with no extras and probably 83# at my draw. It felt very comfortable to me though and was very smooth drawing. I had it and another Hill listed a while back and had planned to keep whichever didn't sell first. Well I had two guys interested in each at the same time and ended up letting both go. The bow I am hoping to work a deal on is 70" and should be 80#+ at my draw. Hopefully it would be even more smooth and quiet with the extra length. I'm just wondering if I'll like the extra circumference of the take down grip.

Perhaps this may be of some help.

Yep, I'm sold on the 70" Hills, and my draw isn't as long as some. I think only 29" or so.

Flynn: Mike G is a sponsor. He's made quite a few for the traditional bowhunting crew here in Katherine. We swear by his back quivers.

Will, I prefer the larger handle sleeve . I am not at home so can't measure it for you but can definitely say the larger is better for me than the smaller sleeve.

Ben,
Is Mike G the Mike of Mikes Archery Leather? If so, which of his back quivers are you using?
Thanks.

Dodger, I have used his 1950s-style version and his really big version. Both are fine.

I took a break from some yard work and strung up the bow and took six shots from different angles and different distances. without warming up. I am ready for deer season which opens in two weeks.

This is why I like the Hill style bow!

Thanks Ben. If I can make the deal I'll probably give it a go. I've never even seen one of the take down Hills in person. I'm not too wild about the high gloss finish for a hunting bow but I guess I'll figure something out. I'll be sure and post pics up here if I get it.
