I believe he pulled them and is working on a more complete version.

ChrisM is correct.  Nate has been really slammed at work, so I don't know if he has had time to redo them.

Anybody ever hear of a Boyer named John Tangredi? Hill style long bowyer?

I first met John Tangredi in the early 1980's at the Pennsylvanian Bowhunters Festival. My friend John Lee knew him and introduced me to him. Over a period of several years I got to shoot with him and listen to his stories about Howard Hill. John was a friend of Howards and hunted with him several times. John Lee said that John Tangredi's shooting style was the closest to Howards style that he had ever seen. I haven't heard anything from John Tangredi in years and I think he passed away some time ago.

I have a leather back quiver made by John Tangredi, it has has stamp on it saying " made by the bowhunter John Tangredi". I bought it new from an old aqqantince that said he was friends with John. I'm not sure where John was from but, I was under the impression that he was from MA or very close by?

Regardless, I've owned the quiver for over 25 years and it's still in excellent shape. If he built bows I'm willing to bet they were good too.

If anyone knows more of Johns history, I would love to hear it.
Thanks, Glen

Hank

I thought Louie Armbruster of Zebra Longbows said that he had built bows for Tangredi, (Tangredi selling them under his name). Talking on the phone with Louie's best friend, he mentioned Tangredi may have built back quivers for Louie.

How about Pete George how long did he make bows? Is he still alive?

I was able to get out for a morning hunt for turkey.

No turkey. Not a gobble or cluck anywhere. I thought I heard one in the far distance but no go.

I did manage a few photos though of the Hill style Dave Johnson bow and the woods.

Decoys about 15 yards away.

Loving the Hill style bows.

Beautiful bow!  What riser wood and core is that and what color glass is on the back?

Bud, I've been drooling over Dave Johnson's bows since you posted about it a while back. So cool man. Glad to see you got it in the woods!

A shooting form question:

Why with hill style and hill bows does it work to improve accuracy by having that distinct bend in the bow arm instead of a slight bend and more extension?

1/16" difference on each side with 1/8" total at 14" from tip. Belly is 3/4" with back at same point opposite side at 7/8".

Hope these pics help. It's hard to see it in the photos.

I find, for me, that if I get more thumb base behind the handle with even pressure along the handle ridge I get better arrow flight. My bow arm is noticeably bent. I've been trying the swing draw after viewing the Schulz video with fairly good results. My recurve draw length is 29". My Hill draw length is roughly 27.5". I am NOT an experienced Hill style shooter by any means.

If I get a recurve grip on the Hill bow I get tremendous wrist slap and wrist movement upon release of the string.

i think hill had that bend because he did not want to shoot a long arrow .i think we longbow shooers have gone off to far in that direction .i have my firesuit on so flame away.

Once I get my heel down on that grip I can't lock my elbow out...so it's bent a little...could it be that simple?

Alright. . . it's officially bear season, and time for a photo challenge for the Hill shooters who venture into bear country. Yes, that means you.

By Sunday night, we all need to post our best two photos from this weekend of early season bear hunting, and bear country.

Mine may not be the greatest this year, but they will be from country I used to hunt 25 years ago. 'Twas good then, and the bear blood did flow in torrents. Could it still be good now?

Time will tell. Time will tell.

Ahh, but when the season ends in this unit, it will be off to the Stanley Basin, where the giants roam, and the season lasts a fair bit longer.

Might just get a few great photos there. Then again, Nate's likely to top them. Derned rascal anyway. Photos of bamboo bows, canvas, plaid, and leather. What's he thinkin'? Nobody's interested in that kind of stuff anymore.
