John, I live in Hilo on the slope of Mauna Kea. I remember the Haleakala from when I worked at SRF Guam when I was in the Navy.

The last few pages on this thread have really disclosed some gems for those of us looking to improve form and shoot better with the Hill bow.

Today I concentrated on really driving the heal of my hand into the grip when coming to full draw (rather than the sort of in between grip I had been using) and keeping my string hand elbow down.

I was amazed to see that these two factors really improved the crispness of my release and (somewhat counter-intuitively) added 3/4 of an inch to my draw.....

Definately adds to the strength of the draw and anchor.

khardrunner thats on my bucket list. Getting a bow out of the deal that you made with Davids help would be rewarding especially when you kill some animals with it.

I'm going to do it at some point. I helped Jerry Hill build several bows but that was 30 yrs. ago and I feel knowledge has grown in bowmaking. We sure have some fine bowyers to pick from

Guys,
I think David's class is primarily for building a self bow of some sort.  Don't think you will be building a glassed model.

From Dave Millers site

".... I have received this instruction one on one and will teach you the secrets of the split bamboo longbow as taught by Howard Hill, John Schulz and now me. You will make the bow of your choice, all bamboo, bamboo Osage, or bamboo and glass. During this school you will temper bamboo the way Howard did it and make a bow for you to take home. You will learn tiller and string alignment the way the masters did it. ..."

Nate Steen .

better check with Miller.  it was my understanding that Schulz only taught him how to make the bamboo backed bows, not the glassed bows.  I heard that he learned to make the glassed bows by studying John's bows, not by actual instruction from John.  I'm sure if you ask, he will tell you.

When are you going to offer a class nate?
