I guess this applies to all the fur strip silencers but I'm curious how people install these. Do you wrap them as tight as possible or do you wrap them loosely?

I like them pretty tight on my strings.

Usually go as tight as possible

TRAP

When I used them I actually soaked them in warm water till the leather was soft, and applied them as tight as I could get them.

As the leather dried it shrunk even tighter around the string.

This way the guard hairs and fur absorb string vibration and the leather is not vibrating against the string.

as tight as I can get them... and I  wrap them  in the same direction that the string is twisted.

Tight as I can get them for the same reasons as noted by Trap.

This thread got me thinking about a bow I bought with beaver balls already on the string...that bow developed an annoying buzz in the upper limb...when I checked I noticed the upper beaver strip was loose...I tied it with dental floss and my buzz is gone

I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42

Same here.

On one of my bows after soaking, I started them tucked in the string, went around, then through the string, then around and tucked in the end, then left the bow loaded until they were dry. Is that wrong?

7 Lakes

I untwist the string just a bit so it's longer than it needs to be.  I tuck one end of the strip between strands, then wrap as tight as I can, going with the twist.  I tuck the last of the strip between string stands.  Last step is to twist the string back up which also tightens the beaver if you've done it right.  The beaver will get loose if you wrapped it backwards.

I just got to look first hand at 7 Lakes methods.  Nice.  I really like the bow.  I think Christmas morning will be good times for my son.  Thanks again!

Had the same experience.  I took it off and softened up the leather again and reapplied.

Wrap them tight. I usually put mine on a nail and have a buddy pull it tight and I wrap it as tight as we can.

NEver thought about the soaking method. Next time I'll do that.
