Hi all, i'll be a new transition from carbon to woodies and have decided upon Douglas Fir shafts.
Wondering what weight i'd need shaft included (eventually for hunting) for a 40# longbow @ 29" draw. I was thinking a 160grain 2blade broadhead. What do you guys think?

dont worry so much about final weight.  Get the arrows flying good for you and shoot them.

You may want to talk with a person such as snag who builda arrows, they will get you close .
Relax,

You'll live longer!

We don't know what type of longbow you're shooting, which will be part of determining spine, which will affect the shaft weight, etc.- lots of variables here, and I am not one of the more experienced here who I'm sure will be along... but for me, drawing around 44 pounds on a "performance" (close to center cut, highly r/d) longbow- I haven't been able to get below 11 grains per pound finish weight with doug fir, with 125 grain points. 50/55 spine.
That's getting the lightest shafts I can find for fir, sealing with Tung oil (lighter than poly dips), no crown dip.
Some folks are fine with 11, 12, even 13 gap, so it will also depend
on what final weight YOU are comfortable shooting.
Tapered shafts will save you another 20-30 grains per shaft.

Long winded reply from a novice, just wanting to share with you my experience with a similar set up, and keep the post moving along.

Thanks guys, much to consider.
As for bow- I've settled on the cheaper side with an Internature Viper Deluxe.
