First off want to say, I hope every one had a amazing Christmas holiday(s) and a even better new years eve!

I not only got to see family after a 2 week training period, I also was grateful enough to receive the last few things I needed to start shooting from fellow trad gang members! THANK YOU.

Today was my first day back on duty and I pulled my old Ben pearson recurve out on lunch break and slung a few arrows. I only shot about 6 arrows from about 12 or so yards plus, I don't have a "set" nocking point yet. I happened to notice all my arrows flew and hit with the tail end leaning to the "right", fishtailing basically.

This is my first recurve after many years with compound, so I'm pretty sure its a spine issue? Just wanted to get everyones .02 as in what to do first before I move on?

Bow is Ben Pearson Recurve 45# @ 28" 58" length
Arrows are 29.5 carbon "powerflight" 500s (7.3 gpi)

I'm using a tab if that means anything.

So, I guess my questions are, where should my nock point be? also, How do I fix the fishtailing?

Thanks guys!

Fletcher

Start with the nock about 3/8" high.  Assuming you are shooting right handed, nock right would mean the spine is too stiff.  You could try a heavier point and see if that helps, also make sure your form is good and you are getting to your full draw length.

Are you shooting split finger or three under? Also, what kinda weight do you have up front on your arrows? Fletcher makes a good point, a slightly stiff arrow can be fixed by making sure you're at your full draw.

sorry, starting out I'm trying 3 under... but honestly experimenting with both...?

100 grain points, and I'm pretty sure I'm releasing at a good solid/full draw..

Thanks guys, I'll look into it a little more

With 3 under, I'd start out at around 5/8" to 3/4"....your nocking point will most likely need to change when you switch from split to 3 under (and vice versa)

Never question a man's choice in bows or the quality of an animal he kills.  He is the only one who has to be satisfied with either of those choices.
