Carbon Express Heritage 150's

Hello all, got my first recurve, a Martin Dreamcatcher. It is 50# at 28" and my draw length is 29". Do you guys think Heritage 150's are gonna be too light? I already purchased them and now I am wondering if I should've gotten the 250's. if anyone could put my mind at ease with some insight I would be super grateful. Thank much guys.

Leave them full length and put a 125 tip on and shoot them bareshaft, ( no feathers )at 10 yds and see how they fly. If you are right handed and they come off the bow as well as during flight are flying with the nock end to your left then they are too weak and you need to either trim them 1/2" at a time till they stiffen up, or if you have to trim more than a inch then you better switch to 250's. Don't want to wind up with arrows that are too short to sell to someone else.

If you wind up with 250's because the 150's were too weak then you will wind up with a 250 full length or maybe 1" trim and a 145 or 160 point weight, maybe 200 grains up front ??? Good luck bud.

I think you might be ok, I am shooting 150s out of my low 50#s bows.

150's will probably work for you. I shoot them out of a 57 @ 29 recurve. I draw 28. Cut arrows to just under 31" 225 total gr. up front 50 gr insert and 175 gr head.

I can make 250's work too, set up differently with more weight up front, etc. Can make them bareshaft correctly but they certainly do not fly as good as the 150's no matter what I do to them.

I would guess they would be to weak.  I shoot 250s out of my 46@30 recurve with 145 up front., and they bare shaft nicely.

What kind of bow are you shooting here mrjsl?

The only way i can get 150's flying out of my 53 pound bow is cut to 29" with a 125 tip with std inserts. but i draw 29" though.

i prefer 250's myself with 210 total up front.  567 grains 53@29"

a not very fancy 14 year old Bob Lee recurve. I also have a Bruin huntmaster that is a little heavier - 59 @ 28.5. I can take the same arrow with a 125 gr point and they are perfect for it, where the 175 gr. points do plane a little weak out of it more often

I fought with the 250's for a couple of years, and I got them to bare shaft impact correctly, but if I shoot 100 of each arrow you would see a lot of the 250's kick on the way to the bullseye where the 150's just fly like darts. Occasionally I can get one to plane a little right at 30 yards with a bad release, but mostly they fly just like the fletched ones.

I have shot an awful lot of bare shafts of both arrows through both bows. I believe I could shoot a 3D tourney with bare shaft 150s as described and do pretty well.

I am shooting 150's with my 50lb bows with 150 ww and they work great.

I would cut those to 30 inches or maybe a hair less.Use a standard insert and 125 grain head.I think they might work for you.

With a 2 blade head mounted horizontil you may be able to cut them shorter (just over 29") to stiffen them if needed.Just need hotmelt for the insert to adjust the head to horizontil.

I would bareshaft test them.

It's amazing how different bows shoot different arrows....

i love the heritage shafts myself. i shoot the 150's out of my 45-47 pound long bows and recurve bows just fine.... great arrow shafts.

Depends on what tip weight you want.  If its the old standby of 125 gr. then the 150's will be the ticket but they are just on the cusp of being too weak especially with a 29 inch draw.  How tall are you, are you absolutely sure about your draw length?

The only bows that shoot 250's well for me are 54 to 56# blackwidows, unless a lot of tip weight[over 145 gr. ] are used. The 150's bareshaft great with 145 gr. tips in 49-52# bows. Just one opinion. Bareshafting will tell you the truth. Thanks, Roy

I need to use 250's out of the bows I have that have the skinny SBD strings,,, based on my bare shafting I found that my bows which shot 150's perfect needed the stiffewr 250's with everything else exactly the same (point,insert,fletch, nock& point weight)

Prob be fine I shoot 150's and GT 5575's from my 56# Widow with 250 up front.

I shoot a recurve 54lbs at 30" and i use the 150's 31" with std inserts and 200gr points.  but it all depends on your whole set up.  Bow, String (strands and material), silencers.

You guys are awesome, lots of good advice.  I got the 150's fletched and used the shop's bow range.  Cut them down to 30", drawing at 29" and they were still way underspined.  He had no weighted inserts so we couldn't go that route.  He went ahead and ordered the 250's.  No extra charge or anything.  I am however taking some 100 grn inserts out today to see if that will set the arrows straight, if not I will bump up to the 250's.
