I have switched to hunting with some heavy arrows this year. I am drawing 27" on a 55# @ 28" bow. My arrows are 2117 at 12.0 gpi and they are full length at 31.375. Bare shafted they flew great with a 29 gr insert and a 200 gr field point up front.

so (31.375 X 12 = 376.5), (376.5 + 229= 605.5)

(605.5 / 31.375 = 19.3 gpi total arrow weight)

Does that sound right? Also, for you guys that shoot heavy arrows have you been happy with them? I switched for the main reason of getting a single arrow setup for deer, hog, elk and one day hopefully bear. Is this a viable option?

Math looks right to me.  I got 19.298805 gpi.

11 grains per pound of rated weight (55@28) and assuming you are drawin 52#'s at 27"'s that'd be 11.6 grains per pound at your draw.
Shooting a vintage Bear Grizzly makes me smile.

Mag, your math is correct and for any of the critters you mentioned it will be fine. Big yes to viability.      :archer:

And that was the answer I was greatly hoping for.    :clapper:

Your math is right but GPI doesn't mean much.Grains per pound of bow weight is the usual standard-GPP.Your GPP is 11.6 which is an excellent hunting weight.
