just wondering if anyone cuts their carbons shorter than 28.5" ? i'm just curious as i'm looking to get some hammerhead trad lites but usually cut my arrows [ woodies ] at 28 1/4 for b'heads and 27.5 for blunts wit . [ mainly because i hunt with a hill style back quiver and any longer they are more inclined to get in the way and are harder to remove from the quiver ]. does it bump the spine up too much ? even with 250gns up front ?
i have very little experience with carbons out of longbows
#i'm looking to get arrows cut at 28" approx
# spine at about 50 lb at 27"
# weigh at least 520 gns ...

any advice appreciated .

cheers

I shoot Heritage 150's with 200 up front, 530 gr, cut at 28.5" from 50@27.  Would be no problem to add 50 grains and cut them down to 28".

I have cut AD Trad Lites for several customers at 27".  You will be just fine cutting them to 28".  Add some 100grn brass inserts to bump up the wt of the arrow.

The carbons are not really all that mysterious.  You will definitely need one of the lighter spines, like Gold Tip 3555, Easton / Beman's 500, or so.  Personally I prefer bare shaft tuning which puts the length at what works for the bow, instead of what is perfect for the archer.  Wood and aluminum will always have more choices.

I use Carbon Express Heritage 150's cut just under 28" as well. Im using 50gr brass inserts and 200gr tips. They fly beautifully out of all my bows from 50-57#. All my bows are cut to or past center. I draw to 27.5"

I have some of these arrows for sale in the classifieds if you want to experiment.

26" draw 27" goldtip 35/55 with 300 up front for a 48# bow.
