its ironic you mention trees and branches ...I literally just walked in the door from ...harvesting...a black locust  for the swap.

Today's to do list...

Mess around with my tips.
What is a black locust? For us on the lily pad we'd be thinking a grasshopper with a suntan...  :D

Much Aloha....  :archer2:

lol rat. locust is a nice hard wood that is native (iirc) to lots of the mainland. i been wondering if any of you wai'lole use hibiscus for bows. we have rose of sharon up here that is hibiscus related , and the stuff is hard as heck.

i am still planning on finishing my 51" pyramid , but i am going to back it wiith hickory. if i dont , its going to end up being a 15lb bow. i went a little crazy on the handle area before i did anything else , so it needs at least a backing. i may also sinew back it when it warms up.

right now i have a 51" bend through the handle in the works. i have seen a lot of <48" bows latelyy that people got to 25" draws , with rigid handles , so im not worried even the slightest on the bendy handle bow. its going to have some fabric accents , like mini micarta , and i may add a piece of hickry to the back to up the weight a bit once i see where she is at.... but shes gonna get grumley sorta style brush nocks , and most likely a dark stain so it can be my stalker.

gonna go with something a little different for the handlle too...
