Making a Warf bow?

My dad has an old bow in the basement.  He calls it a Bear Jennings bow.  I have not found a name on it due to the home camo job it has.  I know the bow is about 30 years old.  How much would a guy have to spend to make a warf bow that pulls around 45-50 pounds?  Also, is this something that I can do? (I am not very handy)  I would like to use the bow that my dad used and make it shoot again.  Next time I go home, I will try to find some info if it is something that can be done without breaking the bank.

Your looking for the limb pocket angle to be around 15-20 degrees to be a WARFable bow. I just completed my 1st Black Bear and starting my 2nd this weekend. Theres a ton of old compounds out there waiting for new life as a great shooting recurves. The cost will be $30 for ILF plates, and you can spend as little as $70 all the way to $700 for limbs. You might want to add a flipper rest and plunger or just stick on a old bear weather-rest. I suggest a set of Trad Tech Black Max 55# short limbs for $129. Remember that all ILF limbs are measured for their weight on a 17" riser. The Black Bear is around 23" so you"ll loose draw weight with the added length. Mine sports 55# medium limbs and turned out at 47#@28" with the limb bolts screwed down tight and a 8-1/4" brace height. Of course the limb pocket angle on different models also affects the finished draw weight, so there might be some experimentation needed. You should google search warf bows for more info.

Most ILF limbs measure the weight on a 23" or 25" riser and you'll see both listed on the limbs.  I believe Tradtech and Black Max measure the weight on a 17" (DAS Dalaa or Tradtech Titan).

FWIW Medium limbs rated 35# or reg riser run 45-55 ish on my shorter 19" Pinnacle 2 riser.

Have not put my 35# limbs on a 23 or 25" riser so dunno how close to spec they are.

I wanted a 50# at 28" and called Tradtech/Lancaster and that's what they sent me, it hit my spec on the money, with the limbs about half way cranked.

Scale showed 2# per rev, peaked at 58 but felt a bit funky. Smooth to low 50's, a bit of a dog at 46#, 50 seems to be right in the groove feel and perf wise.

My limbs are Blackmax and they are NOT rated for a shorter riser.

Tradtech took my info and got me what I needed.

The formula to figure it out comes close, but there are a lot of variables. With a Tradtech purchase they hit your spec +/- 1 lb.
