Clear Coat on Bows?

Hey all
I was wondering what you put on your bows to get the clear shiny coats on your bows?

You should get a jar of true oil from a sporting goods store, just do a search and there is a bunch of info. You basically just rub it on with a small rag or your fingers and let it dry, steel wool between coats. A minimum of 5 or 6 coats and even more is better.

i just finished a bamboo backed ipe with maple and cherry longbow and wanted a natural look but glossy and went with minwax helmsman poly spray indoor/outdoors and it turned out very nice really shows off the wood and the natural look of bamboo but it is glossy LjT

i use tung oil finish, its similar to tru oil in application and finished appearance

I used simple minwax semi gloss polyurethane and applied it with a rag in 4 coats. Not sure what'll happen to the bow's finish in 20 years, but it looks and performs great now. Especially for the price. Maybe someone with an aged bow of the same finish can shed some light as to how long it lasts.

i have had problems with minwax drying over ipe, even after a "sealing" coat of CA. i use Deft now and love it. its the cheapest brand at Home Depot, and drys quickly over anything. quality of finish is comparable to the look of any other brand, as long as you use multiple coats and lightly sand/steel wool/scour pad between coats
