I hear if you put in a field point and heat it you can remove them but you have to be careful not to get to hot or you can ruin the shaft end.
I have never tried it just read about it here.

I have successfully removed epoxied inserts with my heat gun.  You have to be careful not to apply heat for too long or you can ruin the  the tip, at least on carbon arrows.  Apply heat evenly around the shaft tip where the epoxy is located for about 30 seconds at a time.  Keep a field point screwed in for the heat application.  Every 30 seconds or so, pull on the field point with a comfortable pair of pliers.  Also use a shaft puller to grip the shaft.  If you apply just enough heat you should be able to pull the insert out with a little effort without damaging the shaft.  After a few arrows you'll get pretty good at it.  Good luck.

Gordy -

I removed six last night with the heat process. I left a few threads loose on the field point and applied heat only to the field point. Then I clamped the field point in my vise and pulled on the CX shaft leaving the point and the old insert in the vise.

Heat on a screw in field tip is probably the best and safe way to remove the insert, unless your going to shorting the shaft anyway!

Swing Hammer:

take off the nock, and put something like a drill bit in the shaft (just small enough to fit loosely).  using a swinging/whip action, cause the bit to travel to the insert, striking it hard.  It will break the bond and drive it out.  Takes a few swings, but works well.

Heat is too risky in my opinion.  your experiences may differ.

I took a few of the 50 grain weight inserts out of my GT 55/75's. The only problem is that a few of them had some of the inner layers of the carbon come out as i pulled the insert out.I just hit them with a carbon arrow insert cleaning tool and the new inserts fit fine and held fine with a bit of glue.Maybe i didnt heat them enough? but it works...my2cents...

Bob, how effective is the drill bit? Does it get the insert out without damaging the shaft? I've got about a doz shafts that I've glued the inserts in with super-glue, and need to remove the inserts and replace them with weighted inserts. I was favoring the idea of using a drill bit as I don't like the idea of heating up carbon, but am a bit nervous that it will damage the end of the shaft. I guess it's either, or as there's a chance that both could damage the shaft? Thanks,

Nigel

doebow sounds like you heated them up too much.  i had to cut them off then really torch the insert to get that little peice of shaft off and the exact same thing happend

Leopard:

I've done about 1/2 dozen this way with success.  Various glue products were used, and they were defeated.  It takes a number of swings, but I have ruined ones with heat, and just don't like the risk.

I have done all the ways listed like heating up a field point and pull. But I prefer the drill bit and whipping the shaft to drive out the point. You can also get a long steel rod(bar stock from a hardware store) and knock it out like the drill bit method. But I have had some where nothing worked short of cutting the shaft shorter.I just don't like to apply heat to the carbon shaft any more.

Thanks Bob and JRY! I think I'll give that a try!    :bigsmyl:    :campfire:    :)
