2012 was a pretty cool year for me

As 2012 comes to a close, I can't help but reflect back on it a little.  Jan and Feb, I spent some time flinging arrows at some squirrels and bunnys.  I spent the rest of the winter getting ready for Bear Quest.  Working on form, making arrows and sharpening broadheads, I couldn't wait.  Spring turkey season broke the anticipation a little.   I passed on a jake the second day of the season, which I would soon regret.  I wasn't able to get much more time out, due to working availible OT.

Bear Quest....I was ready...I met up at Tom Phillips house, and we were off.  I was fortunate to havemet some great Tradgangers and PBS members.  I was able to take my very first bear.  What made it more special, is that I did it with a recurve.

The summer was spent shooting and shooting carp.  I was also preparing for a  bear hunt with Squapan Mt outfitters and Roger & Toby from Black Widow.  Again, I met some great Tradgangers.  I was lucky enough to have takin a 365 lbs bear that week, winning a new custom Widow put up by Roger & Toby.

After putting much thought into it, I decided on a KB X bubinga riser with olive ash limbs.  I called BW and put an order in for a 58" 55# @ 28".  I also asked Toby if he, Roger, John Clayman and Ken Beck would sign it.  It was delivered in early November.  It is truly a special bow that I will cherish for ever.

I went deerless this season for not having a lot of time to hunt.  But the biggest event of 2012 was the birth of my beautiful granddaughter, Allis May Friel born on Oct 20th.

2012 was truly a special year for me, and it's hard to close the book on it, however, I'm looking forward to 2013 with great anticipation.  I have an Osceola hunt booked with True South Outfitters, where I hope to take my 2nd subspecies for my turkey slam.  Im also heading back for Bear Quest 7 where I'll meet up with friends that I've made the year before, and hopefully meet a few new ones.

Sounds like a good time was had on all counts....I also had a first Grandchild this year and it is a special thing. LOL....as I get older I see that any year that I make it all the way through is a good year      Lets hope next year is as good or even better!
