I was asked to build a hickory self bow for a friend. He is a rather large man and draws 31". Looking for high forties at 31". Any suggestions on length, width and thickness would be appreciated . I am probably going to have to splice some billet's together for length. Thanks

I'd start with a 3" wide pyramid design.  You should be able to find a good Hickory 1x4x72" plank at a hardwood lumberyard -- which is actually 3/4" thick x 3-1/2 wide of course.  At the handle I would add to the belly, a second 3/4" thick layer (hickory or another wood) with fades that extend well beyond the grip itself.  The handle can be glued and secured with several 1/4" or 3/8" wooden through-dowels.

the quick and easy for length is Draw length x2 + 20% for a safe bet or +10% to squeeze some more performance but you gotta tiller nicely
