Hi Greg, what is the total stack you used to get the draw weigth and how thick is the powerlam ? I suppose it's quite a bit thinner than an mild d/r-profile.

Greg/Kenny thats a great looking  bow!

Doh! Thought you were making them out of finished lams. I get it now. Taper joint reduces the chances of a weak point when flexed. Check.

Thanks for the awesome technique.

Andy,
The power lam is part of a triple taper lamination. The middle 12" has a .001 taper per inch, 12" on both ends has an .008 taper per inch. Basically it's hourglass shaped.
To make the combo taper I first sanded a .100 thick parallel, then used the combo taper sled to sand it to .050 thick at the mid point(18" from each end).
Starting at the butt end, this is how it looks, the first 6" is .100 parallel, the next 6" tapers from .100 to .056, the middle 12" tapers from .056 to .044, the next 6" tapers from .044 to .100, and the last 6" is .100 parallel.
I measure my stack height in the middle of the lamination(18" form each end). This bow measured .239"
Kenny can sell you some of these laminations if you want to try them.
I didnt miss, thats right where I was aiming

Hi,

This is my first post.  Used to shoot compounds but have given them up for traditional equipment and am now very interested in building my own laminated bows. I would love to build this design for my boys and it looks like it might be a good first bow build for a beginner.  I have been doing a lot of research on building forms, hot boxes, etc and think I ready to jump in.What do you all think about this design as a first build?

Thanks,
Andy

I have built 3 of kennys 64 inch design, didnt have any problems. I am thinking about the 58-60 inch one too. If you have any problems during the build there is always someone here to answer your questions..

Greg, that bow is simply beautiful! Love the colors of the woods together. Don't you like the way glass overlays can be feathered so nicely?  Andy, I've built many bows. The last two I've built from Kenny's forms and love them. You won't be disappointed! Kenny can get you right on with draw weight too! Go for it. You will be glad you did!  Best of luck, Mike
