Squirrel Hunting
« on: January 23, 2021, 11:00:21 AM »
Went out the other day and had a lot of fun squirrel hunting with Lacie my Boykin Spaniel.  My shooting sure isn't what it used to be but I was doing pretty well for a change.

Hi Dan.  The squirrel dogs use sight, hearing, but mostly scent to find the squirrels.  I normally wait until late morning to squirrel hunt giving the squirrels time to leave a scent on the ground and also time to get away from the den trees.  The wildlife dept. in Oklahoma did a video of us hunting, if you are interested.  You tube outdoor Oklahoma squirrel hunting archery will find it.  It is a little long, twenty minutes or so.

Way to go on the squirrels.  Those greys are hard to get.   :clapper:  It is definitely a lot of fun.

The greys were taken in southern Wisconsin.  I was there on a deer hunting trip.  After a morning sit in my tree stand, I came upon the squirrels on my walk out.  It was one of those times when everything fell together!  Three arrows shot and 3 squirrels down!  I am sure I will never have that happen again.  Back then I was shooting my 65# Martin takedown recurve.
