i am taking a break from bow building for a couple of reasons... i was burnt out, i reached a good many of my goals, my body was suffering, (i would spend 8 to 12 hours a day building and testing bows which means a lot of standing with very little other movement so my hips, back and knee were causing me lots of pain)...
i have neglected my property which has three buildings and two sheds on it and they all need work... i am committing myself to most of this winter to roofing, painting and misc. repairs until all is done... at 59 these bones are starting to feel it and if i don't get it done now it's gonna get harder in the years to come... since i stopped making bows a month ago i am already feeling a lot better... i am having less pain and am gaining more flexibility and movement in my joints and my lower back, disc problem seems to be doing better also...
last week i dug a 220 feet long trench to get well water to another part of my property... this week doing roof repairs on my garage to prep it for a new roof... it will feel good when it is all done and i can coast for the next ten to fifteen years before anything major needs to be done...
the great part about all this is that i am all ready missing building bows again... i am coming up with new ideas and entertaining the idea of going for all out speed and making a 35 pound flight bow... maybe next time i will be more in balance and not spend so many hours standing that it does my body harm...
sometimes you need to take a vacation from the things you love...
