Spring Turkeys on the way
« on: April 03, 2011, 01:45:00 AM »
Anyone gearing up for a spring turkey? I know I'll probably be talking to Ron and snag on here again but thought I would see if there is anybody else checking this Oregon forum.
I'll be heading out to my "spot" which is sort of an ambush "turkey shoot" but it's fun.
Think I'll be shooting the 53# firefly with some carbons and the magnus bullhead.. that's the plan anyway.
I'm going to do a little scouting next week.

I'm going to be calling for a friend and his son next weekend on the youth hunt.

I'd planned on going after a bird with my bow again this year, but I haven't been able to shoot yet following bypass surgery. So it looks like I'll be hunting with the smoothbore again.

Plan on making a trip to the Blue Mtns sometime this spring for a turkey hunt and elk shed hunt combo.

Here's the last longbeard I killed with my bow...

That's a nice one. I got my first two seasons ago on a rainy day and it was a Jake. Not a "pretty picture". Wet little bird but it was a good first. Made wing bone yelpers and some tasty stir fry.
Blues are awesome. Good luck on both goals.

What a beautiful bird Ron! Looks like it was a good day. Think I'll head down south and take a look around.

That was several years ago Dave. I didn't even go hunting yesterday, too wet and too many humans out and about.

They keep saying the weather will dry out starting Sunday, so I'll go see if I can scare up a gobbler or two then.     :knothead:

I went to check on my turkeys yesterday but like you say Ron, it was a little soggy. They were hunkered down but I'll get back out this weekend if it improves.
