Just wondering if many people hunt with this long of bow anymore seems like short is way to go. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks Brandon
My Centaur is 64 but I've used 66 before. Just need to be sure you have limb clearance when you set up your stand. Also do practice shots from the stand.
Hunt with a 66" Big River all the time. Never had an issue.
66" N.M. Classic and 66" N.M. Whisper. Never a problem.
Yes, and longer. The difference between a 62" bow and a 68" bow is nil. If you set yourself up right, bow length is meaningless.
I regularly hunt with 68" bows.
I like to shoot while sitting, when possible. Longer bows can cause the string to come into contact with some climber style sections, like my Ol Man.
Can longer bows work? Certainly.
Do shorter bows have less likelihood of coming into contact with other objects (tree limbs, treestand parts, your own body)? I believe so.
I hunt with a 66" Treadway and haven't experienced any problems. If I use a climbing stand I have a Lone Wolf and there isn't a bar in my way.

Currently don't hunt with a 66-inch bow, but i have. Current bows are 64-inches with pretty severe r/d so they're almost the same length as a 66-inch straight bow when strung.
Regardless, never had much of a problem.
I do/did, and also with longer bows. Find a position that is clear and that you can shoot with BEFORE the critter gets there and it will work.
This topic came up before. I find that for me, on the close up shots, I like to tuck the lower limb behind my lead knee, so I have to be turned just a tad farther than normal. I can then lean down into the shot and it works very well.
I remember the first such shot ( I didn't get to take) using a longer bow and a very close critter. I couldn't find a good position and never took the shot. I later played till I found the one above and now use it all the time ( when in a tree. been ground hunting mostly the last several years now).

I've hunted from tree stands with bows from 47" to 72". You just have to be sure you have clearance all around you. I removed the adjustable rail from my original Summit to accommodate bow hunting.
Yes, I hunt routinely with 66" bows...from treestands, ground blinds, and popup blinds. It is all about positioning and removing limb obstacles...and of course...canting the bow to give good clearance.
I never use rails on the tree stands that I bowhunt out of...or flip them up and bungee them to tree so they dont fall down. Also be aware of side rails or arm rests. Just wear a harness...have it adjusted to give you full movement but restrict you if you lean out or turn enough....and enjoy the adventure. :)
66" Dwyer hanging next to me. I practice from a 17' ladder stand behind the house and I notice that I tend to cant a longer bow more especially on the shorter shots. No problem with the 66" bow from a treestand but you have to practice... which you have to do anyways! :)

I have hunted from tree stands with a 64" recurve and a 66" longbow. With the longer bows I tend to pull the string into my chest- especially with heavy clothing on. Other than that, the length did not bother much. For me, a 60" bow usually feels best. Always good to try a few practice shots from the stand.
This fall I was hunting from a new ladder stand and thought I'd try a practice shot. At the release the lower tip of the bow hit a side bar of the stand. The recoil knock the bow out of my hand and the bow landed 16 feet below me, fortunately not damaged. I took the sidebar off and all is good. And that was with a 60" recurve.
I hunted from tree stands with my 66" Asbel Bighorn for years. I now use 60-64" Bear T/D's. I prefer the 64"er's. I believe you will have far less issues with longer bows in tree's than you will sitting or kneeling in a ground blind.
My Black Widow PLIII is 66". Not much of a problem with the stand as it is with limbs overhead.

I've hunted forever with bows from 60" to 68" with no problems.
I agree with the practice makes perfect approach.
Shoot your bows from a stand and you'll be comfortable with the longer bows in the field
I think this is totally a personal physique, form, and preference type of deal. For me, I'm 5'10" with shorter arms, larger chest, and I like full draw with good alignment. I draw a little iver 27.5". For me, my 60" Recurve gives me fits in the tree if the treestand is 15-17ft up and deer are less than 12 yards or so. I've tried lots of positions and its tricky, too tricky to worry about when it's go time... The 60" works fine with less angle, lower treestand, longer shots, etc.. I tend to have string interference with chest or limb/string interference with leg. I switched to a Black Widow 54" KB and it's perfect for me. No more issues with interference at all and even better it's not on my mind as a distraction... I can focus on the deer and make it happen. So, practice and test for yourself what works, it may be different than others...
