My wife and I are going to England to visit our Daughter and her family in March. I want to take the grandsons their archery equipment. Are there any special consideration to be made?
None at all. Just pack it up and call it sporting equipment, if they ask be honest and say it a bow. I haven't done it in a couple years but sporting equipment is often not charged for.
thanks Cal.
No problem, enjoy your trip! Archer is way different over there. They don't like "American flat bows" but they'll let you shoot with them anyway. It was funny, I was shooting one day and they insisted that I keep score (I never do) then they were upset when I beat them :)
While many of them enjoy target archery, their feelings and laws regarding bow hunting are very different from ours, so it is probably best to stay away from that subject unless someone else raises it first. If someone does, then I would simply express your feelings honestly, while acknowledging that our traditions are different.
UK's laws aren't as harsh as some. I understand that just passing through the Netherlands with broadheads in your luggage on the way to some other country where bowhunting is legal can get your archery equipment confiscated. You didn't mention bringing any broadheads into the UK, but since bowhunting is illegal there, you might want to check on their laws before bringing any broadheads in.
Hiya, lurker from the Uk here..
You're allowed to have broadheads here and can bring them over with you. You wouldn't be allowed to use them at a range though and no bladed weapons in a public place without good reason.
Mcdave is right about attitudes to hunting here. Antis massively outnumber those of us who know where meat comes from.
You'll find the archers over here welcoming and inclusive of all styles, except for the usual ribbing between compounders and trad bows that goes on.
Have a great trip.
Al.
Alistar, I will be by Croughton raf base. Are you close?
About an hour or so. The club where i shoot is around 40 mins away from you. If you have time for a shoot while you're here i'll try and get something arranged buddy.
we are going to be there for three weeks, should be able to arrange something.
