Post by: Chasseur on October 16, 2007, 04:29:00 PM
Hi all,

Can anyone recomend a good reflex/deflex take down longbow?

Thanks!

:D

My personal favourite (at the moment...) is the Horne Combo Longbow. Smooth, fast, quiet & accurate. What more could you want!

Cari-bow, I had the pleasure to shoot a couple back at the end of march and can't say enough good about them. The silver fox is one of the smoothest bows I've ever had the pleasure to draw. There is also zero noticeable hand shock. Abe is a true craftsman and makes, I think, the best looking bow out there. I was so impressed I put an order in on the spot.

Yeah serious talk about opening up a can of worms!   :biglaugh:
My favorites are pronghorns, I have several. Hornes are almost identical.

There are so many good ones.  I really like my Bob Lee t/d longbow.  I can't imagine finding a bow I like any better but there are still several that I would like to get my hands on.

In a two piece, I like a Robertson; mostly because I like the bow and I find his T/D method as good as any.

The list of bad ones would be much shorter. Almost all are good but the question is which will be good for you. One size does not fit all.

There are too many good bows to count, find the one that suits you.  I'm hooked on the Firefly, great bows and a great value all in one.

Agree with robtattoo.  I have one that should be ready in about 2 months.  I had no plans on getting a takedown until I shot one of Hornes Combo Hunters.  Truly a great bow.

Yea, there are pleanty out there, and like the Vermonster says, "one size does not fit all." Just pick the lenght, wood, draw and pounds. They are all good compared to training wheels.

ACS CX does it for me (for now).

3 piece, another vote for ACS CX. 2 piece, Wes Wallace.

Hi all thanks for the recomendations.

I'm just looking for suggestions of makes I don't know.  As well said earlier there are so many out there now.

I'm more interested in a two piece center break style, than detachable risers.

#55 draw weight.

Guess I'll jump in & suggest Fox. Ron uses a sleeve & makes a very nice bow.  www.foxarchery.com (http://www.foxarchery.com)   Frank

Black Widow
Tomahawk (Three Rivers)
Horne
Shrew
Turkey Creek

And those are just the sponsors I can think of that make two piece. I'm sure there are more.

Schafer, Robertson, or Widow, you can't go wrong with any of the three.

Speak of popcorn, my wife and I have eaten 38 lbs. and that is unpopped at 38 lbs., we love to make it with olive oil, it takes great, just add a little salt.

Now back to the favorite bow,

I just received my Turkey Creek Longbow three-piece takedown it is 42# @ 29' 63" with Arrow set up at 426G axis 500 with 125 g stinger upfront it flies at 180 fps.

You probably be in the 200's if you went with any poundage above that.

I would give Turkey Creek Longbow serious look, there most deftly as serious hunting bow.

Well, you'll get a thousand different opinions! Four I have owned and can recommend are Sleybow (no longer in production, but plenty of used around), Black Widow, Thunderhorn, and Lightning. I currently own a Lightning and it's as good as bows twice the price and is likely the lowest-priced top-end custom bow on the market today. It uses a new and very simple takedown system with a pin. Google 'em, or contact Milt Beens at Wildcat Canyon Archery, a dealer.

I have become a huge fan of Pronghorns and as many of you know, I have had a bunch of bows.  I have one TD in house, just bought another on the classifieds and have a third on order!  They point very nicely for me.  I also have a Schafer that is a a great shooter, but a bit heavier in draw so I don't shoot it as much.

Turkey Creek makes a great one at a great price.
